Hi,
i was wondering if anyone in the same position could help me with the below?
I visited the ER with an unrelated issue, but after blood tests and a CT scan it confirmed I have extreme inflammation in my transverse colon so now awaiting a colonoscopy. Doctors said they can’t rule out malignancy or ulcerative colitis. No infection found in blood either.
after doing research it seems Colitis would affect the rectum upwards if it was the case.
i guess what I am asking is can colitis only be found in the tranverse colon and not else where as no inflammation was shown anywhere else? And with very mild symptoms is this even possible??
I feel like I visited ER and come out with a hell of a lot more than expected!
thank you if you read this far :)

Not everyone diagnosed with IBD have the typical gut symptoms op. Some people are picked up when being examined/treated for the non gut problems that can be part of IBD, such as arthritis or certain skin or eye conditions.

Hiya

Hopefully you've had some answers from the Drs by now but just in case -

I have UC (diagnosed Jan 22).

From my understanding UC does start 'bottom up' (pun intended lol) and will spread from one area upwards. I was told that Crohns is "patchy" ie you could have areas of inflammation, then healthy bowel, then more inflammation whereas with UC. It would just be inflammation then healthy bowel. So my understanding is that if the transverse colon has UC then the sigmoid colon and descending colon would be affected also. Could they have said that they saw inflammation TO the transverse colon and not just in that area? In my experience drs often say a lot of confusing or unclear things and expecially when you are unwell it's a lot to take in and understand.

Just to say that if they do diagnosed crohns or UC there are a lot of treatments available and it's very possible to keep symptoms to a minimum/under control so please do not worry. Happy to chat further if you do have any questions 😀
