Anyone with ulcerative colitis had c diff?

Hi,

Just looking for advice really.

I thought I had started with a flare of my colitis 2/3 weeks ago. Turns out I have c diff.

I have been on antibiotics for over a week and just seem to be getting worse every day.

I have spoken to my ibd nurse a couple of times last week. I don’t think she gets how much blood I am losing! I have no energy at all, hardly eating.

Of I am awake I am n the toilet.

Have any of you had anything similar with c diff? I think I have c diff and a bad flare but there is no way of knowing yet.

I can’t see how I will manage cooking Christmas dinner and be all full of Christmas energy on the day. The kids are so excited

Can you push for an apt with your consultant?

Sometimes having a good gp helps, I've had the odd one ring up the consultants team and demand I'm seen. (Luck of the draw)

@StBrides thank you for the reply

My consultant is aware, well the ibd nurse said she told him and his advice is to do another stool sample in 8 weeks.

I feel so frustrated, bet I am in hospital for Christmas 😕

DS has, (he has Crohns, so close enough). He has IV antibiotics for it, initially as an inpatient and then as outpatient. Really push for a review, it can be a hard one to treat.

I finish the antibiotics on the 23rd, I will start steroids on the 24th.

If it is a flare hopefully the steroids will help, I just worry it will have got to far and too much damage to my colon by Saturday.

It's so so hard when you're in this sort of situation and you're up against a brick wall. I think the only advice we can give is to push hard to see your consultant- even if they need to give more time to the anti biotics, there are things they should be doing to support you.

Eg - managing your hydration and prescribing those fortified drinks for nourishment.

Are you keeping a symptom diary? Be clear on how many times you're going, how long you're spending on the loo, pain & blood loss.

If you're not already, get diarolyte down you regularly. Get some fortified drinks.

Try your gp for an urgent apt and see if they'll sound the alarm on your behalf.

I've definitely noticed how the nhs crisis has affected access to established consultant care in the last couple of years. If you're facing an admission, then you're ill enough to warrant creating merry hell.

What is your family situation? It absolutely shouldn't be you doing the Xmas cooking etc, do you have family you can step in and look after you?

I'm sorry, I know don't have the strength to move right now. If you can enlist support then do so, don't be shy about it.

@StBrides thank you

I will start to keep a diary going forward and push to speak with my consultant, after all he has only heard second hand about my symptoms.

My dp would happily do the Christmas cooking so I may have to just let him and hope for the best!

I have hydration drinks so I will keep on with those.

Thank you for your kind post
