Hashimoto's / underactive thyroid - query about TG antibodies result

I am wondering if anyone spotted something was off with their thyroid that they may need to keep an eye on from their TG antibody result?

I paid for a Medicare thyroid check and and my TG antibody result was 15.6 iu/ml. This is well within 'normal' range used by Medicare and NHS of less than 35 iu/ml. However, I've been reading that these ranges are very generous and that the optimal range is less than 2 iu / ml.

I also read that you can test positive for thyroid antibodies 5-10 years before developing symptoms of hypothyroidism so it is best to keep an eye and retest regularly - has anyone been in this situation?

My other results are well within 'normal' ranges, the TSH and Free T3 are very marginally out of the 'optimal' ranges (I've been using those in Maisie Hill's Perimenopause Power, I'm aware they can vary!)

TSH - 2.25 miu /ml
Free T3 - 4.5 pmol /l
Free T4 - 17.5 pmol / l
TG antibodies - 15.6 iu / ml

Clearly there's nothing super dramatic going on right now with my thyroid but am just wanted to put my mind at rest about the antibodies!

I'm 44 and I have been experiencing severe exhaustion, muscle and joint pain, hair loss, brain fog, weepiness and weight staring to creep up despite careful diet and very regular exercise. I got the thyroid screening to rule this out before assuming this must all be perimenopause and begin looking into HRT....

You need to give the ranges for those results but a TSH of 2.25 is creeping up a bit. As for antibodies, they can go up and down and yours are quite low. I wouldn't over worry about it, maybe do another test in a year.

If I were you I'd get an Iron panel done to see how the various parameters are. Low ferritin can make you feel at death's door and give you many of the symptoms you list.
