How far to walk with Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I'm waiting for an appointment with RA consultant. On Methotrexate injections, and recently had my knee injected with steroid.

I've been resting ie not walking dog for at least 2 weeks - knees are still sore - but how far should I walk? Don't want to get muscles getting too weak...

I have RA and have done for 5 years. It affects pretty much all my joints.

My rule is taking each day as it comes. If I feel up to something, I'll give it a go. If I get part way say, through a walk and struggle, I'll turn back.

Basically, you do what you can do, but don't push too hard, as you'll suffer for it later.

@HelpMeGetThrough Thanks for replying - that is pretty much what I would usually do. I've had RA for over 12 years, and normally would do as you say. But I've had a flare up since Sept Sad and basically need a change of meds - hence struggling a bit at the moment.

That flare sounds awful. I've had them on and off since November and have seen my Rheumatologist. He's of the opinion my biologic isn't doing its job. I'm on Methotrexate and Baricitinib amongst others. The adalimumab I was on didn't work. He's getting X-rays and if they look ok, I'm carrying on with Baricitinib, if not, it's my final try on another biologic.

I always have it worse in the colder weather, even though studies have said it's not linked, my Rheumatologist does think cold weather makes it worse and I agree with him.

Hmm not sure if mine is linked to cold weather - never has bothered it in the past. Turns out walking 10 minutes up to the village and back was a very bad idea. My knee - which had shrunk down nicely after the steroid injection - is now enormous and extremely painful.

I've got a telephone appt. with rheumatology nurse on the weekend, and then face to face with consultant in February. Really hoping the nurse can increase methotrexate and that will sort it....

Trying to remain optimistic but can barely hobble about at the moment. Sad
