Hi I was wondering if anyone could help with these results please as I am feel rather poopy. I have Graves and was overactive for around a year I've been on 5mg Carb. Over the last few months I've felt proper pants. Really cold, not sleeping, palpations ect. Spoke to Endo he said not to decrease to 2.5 cause they don't do them! Went gp and he said to cut down to 2.5mg daily.

To cut a long story short I cut down to 2.5 for around 2 weeks and still felt pants so upped it again to 5mg daily. Anyway gp done bloods a couple of weeks ago but only done TSH which had dropped is this meant to happen? So I bought a private blood test and TSH has dropped even more but both ft3 and ft4 are in range but again TSH has dropped and ft4 has gone up.

Is TSH meant to drop like that? Or am I going hyper again? Should I have stuck on the 2.5mg? I truly do find it all so confusing I just know I feel like crap.

Thyroid results help please

I have Graves' and was overmedicated for a while, so had symptoms of underactive thyroid (tired, cold, breathless). Under my endo, I am now down to taking 5 mg carbimazole three times a week. He said my TSH should be no higher than 0.5, with FT4 and FT3 at decent levels.

You could be overmedicated? Or it could be meno symptoms? I'm on HRT so those hormones are ok lol

I've just seen you have put the ranges at the top - are those ranges the same for your private test? Your T4 is quite low, you don't seem overactive to me! You could try posting on the Health Unlocked thyroid forum, they are very helpful on there (and know far more than me!).

With Graves even if your thyroid levels are within normal range you can still have symptoms. Your T4 is quite low and that's not overactive. Your Tsh at 0.4 might cause your symptoms but I am not a doctor.

Remember with Graves anything stressful, diet can have an impact in how we feel.

Thanks for your response I always thought it was a bad thing the TSH dropping because obviously I started with the suppressed TSH so worried a lot about it dropping back there so that's good to know thank you.

Hi the t4 is 25.9 the highest it's ever been since diagnosis, at diagnosis it was 63 or 64. I just dread ending up back there as I ended up in hospital for 7 days.

Sorry t4 is 15.9

Yes, I think your T4 is too low, it needs to be a bit further through range.

When I was diagnosed my TSH was less than 0.01 - my endo is not that concerned with my TSH now, more about where T4 and T3 are and how I feel. Was there a point where you felt really well? If so, aim for that!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 15/01/2023 17:10

Also, it takes 6 to 8 weeks for a change in dose to make a difference to how you feel. I've been on my lower dose for a month now, and am just about beginning to feel a bit better, and I will be having a blood test in a month.

Thank you for your message yes I felt well for all of 2 weeks I felt normal again it was bloody brilliant However at one point I ended up overmedicating myself when I was on a high dose for around a week or two and to be honest I think I have probably been slightly over medicated most than f the way through treatment which is probably why I haven't felt so great.

You could try lowering your dose and take 5mg carbimazole four times a week (as this is easier than trying to split a 5mg tablet in half!)? But give it time to work before changing it again!

I felt incredibly well with TSH at 0.01 (0.27-4.20), T4 at 16.4 (11-21.2) and T3 at 5.3 (3.1-6.8).

And really rough with T4 at 13.6 and TSH at 3.75.

We all have a 'perfect' level that's individual to us.

Thank you so much I find it all terribly confusing, I have a phobia of hospitals and end always trust to get me to have Rai telling me that I don't want to get that I'll again which then sends me into a panic and I end up really anxious. I think I have some sort of learning disability and it makes it so hard for me to try and understand it all but you have put it in the simplest of terms because I worried to death about the TSH dropping to 0.46 and now my mind is at rest. Could I please ask what your t4 stands at? I know everyone is different and obviously my t4 has been low for ages which is probably why I have felt so crappy. Well that and the menapause.

I'm aiming for my T4 to be about 16/17 - as I felt well then. Obviously, your 'best level' might be different!
