I was diagnosed today with hyperthyroidism and my doctor prescribed me a propranolol for palpitation and thiamazole to normalized my ft4. My concern is, I am a smoker. If I suddenly quit smoking, what will happen to me?

Sorry I don’t know about giving up smoking, but surely it would be a good thing?

just wondered what your TSH was? Thanks

My TSH is 4.72 the my FT4 is 19.78. Both are considered high.

I’m not an expert but is that TSsh suggestive of under active?

Quitting smoking is going to be unpleasant but not harmful. I’ve done it a few times and now vape, which isn’t really much better aside from the smell, but good luck with your treatments.

Take it easy, cut down on caffeine, try to have a healthy amount of sleep and see how you get on.

the thing with blood testing and thyroid. Just remember. The human body rarely follows a textbook. If your results don’t look like other peoples that’s ok. Make sure you keep a diary of your results, what you’re taking and how you feel, because how you actually feel is often more important than the results. You can be symptomatic on normal blood ranges and fine on abnormal ones.
