Autoimmune disease
Think my thyroid has caught up with me (or menopause?)
chutzpahchick · 01/09/2022 06:20
I've had hypothyroidism since I was 18, so 30 years now.
I responded well to thyroxine treatment and aside from my daily pill and blood tests every 6 months, things settled and I'm generally quite healthy. When my thyroid was initially out of whack, felt quite awful, super tired, put on a ton of weight (fun when you're 18 and your friends are all slim!). But weight came off, got pregnant quickly and 3 healthy pregnancies. Only time I saw specialist was during pregnancy and breastfeeding as things went a bit funny in my bloods (I still felt fine).
Anyway, recently Ive been feeling like shit. Put on 5kg but no appetite! Exhausted all the time - falling asleep at work, spending weekends on the sofa (totally not me, my kids always moan that I'm too active and getting them to do stuff) - but also attacks of insomnia. More worrying, I have a fitbit and my resting heart rate has gone down. It was always low in the 50s but it's now around 47-48. That seems way too low.
However, last time I had bloods done (6 months ago or so), my TSH was super low. The Doctor wanted to drop my thyroxine but I asked her not to as I was feelign fine and didn't want to mess with it.
I have an appointment wiith an endo this weekend. This definitely sounds like my thyroid is doing somethign funky, right? Any tests I should request???

I have Graves and have just been told my thyroid is now underactive after being over active. Feel bloody awful to be honest! Might be worth getting your vit B levels checked as I understand that can cause issues too

Bloody TSH of 150. From 0.2 less than a year ago. Totally fits my symptoms of being hypo. Doctor is changing dosage. Lets hope it works.

Oh no! It's such a balancing act with meds isn't it. Your numbers sound like you've got really under active...hope your meds start working soon and you feel better

It had been so good for so long. I think the problem is that I used a prescription refill service (I'm not in UK and there's not really a good GP network where I live, you have to go to hospital for everything so I got lazy) and I think they changed the meds (packaging was certainly different). Timing fits and the Dr I saw thinks it is the reason too so she's putting me back on the old meds but has to titrate up again as I'm so hypo she thinks nothing has been been absorbed from the new meds.

I've had some issues with mine during peri menopause. Have actually slowly reduced it a bit but prior to that had to go up.
Started thyroxine when I was v early 20's. Now mid 40s

Do you mean 1.5 or 150?
I felt like I was dying of fatigue with a TSH of 7. Hope you feel better soon OP.

Yep it was 150!! It was so high they even ran the tests again.
But now it's been treated and my numbers are nomral again. And I even managed to lose the 5kg I gained which is a massive relief!
