Hypothyroid - good and bad days - what can I do!

6 weeks into treatment with 50 mcg Levothyroxine

Some days I do feel so much better, the chills have gone at least, other symptoms variable so presume the situation is not going to improve in a linear fashion

BUT the thing I am finding hardest is some days I can not concentrate from one moment to the next

What can I do? work is so hard today :(

It does take time, I’m afraid. My consultant stepped up my doses gradually (she said whacking a patient on to the likely final dose is like flooring the accelerator on a car in first gear.) I moved up in 25mcg increments over a number of weeks (I’m now on 100mcg) and each time the dose increased I felt pretty weird for a couple of weeks. I’m not suggesting you tinker with your dose, but it really does take a while for your body to adjust. I’d say it was three months of gradual improvement before I felt really well, but my thyroid was truly shot (Hashimoto’s). Presumably your doctor will be doing another TSH soon to check your levels and adjust the dose if necessary.

It took about eight months to get to 150mcg, I started on 50 too. The good news is that you will feel better, it just takes time.

Thanks for the encouragement, I have my 1st blood test since starting treatment next Tuesday, interested to see the outcome.

Stupid thing is that now I know that the foggy brain and intermittent muscle exhaustion could be improved I am impatient for the benefits!
