My mum has has rheumatoid arthritis for many years. She has a sympathetic GP who has really helped her over the years, and a careful balance of medication which gets tweaked every now and again, but it really helping her.
She is moving soon to live nearer me. She is in her late 70s, and is nervous about the whole thing, but particularly worried about if her new GP will be clued up about what she needs.
I’ve tried to reassure her that her new doctor will have all her notes. In your experience, is moving GPs problematic? She is not always brilliant at standing up for herself. Any advice welcome.

In my experience GP's vary massively in different parts of the country. The place I currently live the service is pretty diabolical and it's highly unlikely you'd get to see the same dr on a regular basis. Hopefully things are better where you live but I'd suggest asking locally rather than on here

Will she register at your own local GP practice?
You could email them and ask if they have a GP lead in RA / autoimmune disease. If they do, then it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask that she's allocated to that doctor as her named GP.

Everyone with RA has to have an annual review, so her new GPs will be pretty familiar with it and she should be invited annually. It flags up on the system as being a condition that requires monitoring, so she should not have too much trouble getting them to manage it effectively.
