Anyone tried AIP Paleo?

I have been increasingly unwell over last few years with so called chronic fatigue and my doctor has put me on an AIP Paleo diet. It's only day 2- I kept putting it off. I was wondering if anyone here had tried it and, if so, what were results/outcome?

Not this specific diet, but I eat a ketogenic diet that has improved my crohns arthritis and my energy levels significantly. It was suggest by my rheumatologist. I don’t think I could be strict enough to follow the AIP, I like my dairy, eggs and odd cup of coffee too much!
I found pre planning, menu plans, prepping, making sure I had things that could make a quick meal with if too tired etc was a big help. Hope it works well for you.

Just out of interest, are you in the UK, OP?

I've never found a doctor who will make the connection between diet and chronic autoimmune issues. I've always been told, 'Just eat what you fancy' which is not helpful when you're struggling and unsure if you're eating the right things.

How are you finding paleo?

My endo said that in his experience with patients the AIP diet can help initially with symptoms but the effect wears off. He didn't go into detail about how many patients whether that's because they fell off the wagon with it....

Be cautious about following overly restrictive diets for too long as they reduce the quality of your gut microbiome. AIP is meant as an exclusion diet though, you aren't meant to follow it forever...

I am in the UK, and so is my GP. PM me if you want details. I'm finding it hard but it is only temporary for me. The main objective is to identify any food that triggers symptoms (other than gluten, diary and sugar which I've already excluded). I really miss my coffee in the morning and I'm not feeling better yet but only 9 days in.

Yes, I’ve tried it, about seven years ago for roughly six months.

It didn’t make any significant improvements over and above normal Paleo. Paleo made some improvements initially but then different symptoms surfaced in time. It’s not a route I would recommend beyond it’s good to eat fresh, unprocessed food of the best quality you can reasonably afford.

What has helped is looking into SIBO. The work of Dr Mark Pimentel is informative.

In some advanced cases SIBO is an autoimmune disease.

Thanks Whisky, will look into that.
