Hi

I have hypothyroidism, need a blood test but Covid. I’m struggling with fatigue more than ever. I exist at work, come home sleep 3 hour naps, then 10-14 hours at night. Struggling to have the energy to shower more than twice a week. Haven’t cooked in weeks.

I also struggle with periods with symptoms so severe that I can’t move from the bed, which my Previous GP has deemed normal, women’s issues, the usual crap.

My one slight hope is that I have moved area and thus have a new GP but my hope is limited, and I have poor faith in GPs (I say this as an nhs nurse - GPs are great for many things gynae and endocrine issues not yet being one of them)

Can anyone advise me on what I should do. I’m so tired that I finished work last Friday and slept through til Sunday.

I’ve also piled on weight.

Tia

This is not good! It shouldn't be that hard to get a blood test even shielding that was the only thing I went out for in five months! I take 100 levo for hypothyroid and have an auto-immune arthritis. I also need b12, vitD and iron supplements & folic acid. The fatigue indeed becomes chronic and auto-immune disease puts you in constant inflammation leading to the exhaustion. If you have gained a lot of weight from the thyroid issue you might be needing CPAP if sleep is interrupted, or rule out T2 diabetes. Just suggestions to ask for your GP to investigate. I'm absolutely not medically qualified to give advice.

Thanks so much @MenaiMna xx

I’ve not gained so much weight as to warrant CPAP but another few stone and I would. Will press for a gp apt. Tbf it was my last GP who cancelled all apts (yet us hospital nurses carry on as normal - but anyway) I’ll see what the new ones policy is. Thanks again xx

God that sounds awful. I hope you have more success with a new GP but my non-medical advice would be to ask for referrals, firmly. It’s not fair for you to go on like this. You could also end up with a burnout situation if you’re so tired you can sleep through a whole weekend.

I think part of the problem is that getting progress is harder than normal so you take a super fatigued person and add Covid and it is quite simply like swimming through treacle to get medical help.
I am much, much worse tried to get help via rheumatology and got bounced backwards and forwards until I emailed at 4 am in a bout of fibro fueled insomnia in a very despondent fashion and then cried when they called back pointing out that the main feature of my multiple conditions is fatigue and they were just asking me to make call after call. Finally tomorrow after 8 weeks I will get a blood test.

It’s a shame it varies so much from practice to practice as at our GPs I have had absolutely no issue getting bloods done .

Oh that’s terrible. I came on to ask about some recent bloods I had done (without issue) but saw your post. My sister has Hashimotos and I have seen over the years how utterly debilitating it can be.
For me I completed one of those new E-consult forms that let you express your concerns in your own words (without interruption) and it led to a blood test within days. Please push for tests.
