Lupus - wtf just happened???

So I've had lupus for about 10 years and it's been quietly chuntering along to itself, unmedicated but supervised.
I have rosacea, athritis and dry eyes but nothing that's any more than vexatious.
Soooo.... a year or so back I had a handful of lime Doritos and BANG came out in head to toe hives: I looked as if I'd been boiled. Massive temperature spike, palpitations, lips swelling, the whole nine yards.
Nothing else since then. Last night I had a Co-op salami diavolo pizza for supper, a cheese and ham toastie for lunch, and about 4am I started streaming mucus down the back of my throat and being glued to the toilet, both ends.
I felt absolutely awful - really flu-ey - for about half an hour, and it's now passed.

Is this a thing with lupus? Obviously my checkups have gone by the board this year but has anyone else had a sudden-onset food intolerance (dairy, I suspect)?

Sorry you've had no replies. I only clicked because I have a distant relative with the condition - but I can't advise on your symptoms.

Hope someone else can help.

Get some bloods done to check for coeliacs. Once you've got one autoimmune disease you get others.

I'd also consider getting medicated. The meds are to help slow the diseases down and to try and prevent damage.

I have lupus, and lots of other autoimmune stuff. I wouldn’t assume this is lupus related, it sounds like either a food allergy thing or even some sort of dodgy stomach from the food. Lupus rashes tend to be brought on more by photosensitivity. Mine is triggered by sunlight and insect bites.

I have mixed connective tissue disease a member of the Lupus family. My rash is very specifically the first strong sun of the year.
But I do find that it can hit me out of nowhere like a steam train - this year has been the worst ever. I am assuming stress at work, combined with general Covid stress is responsible.

I've got lupus ( like you, OP, bumbling along) and have never had a reaction like that to any food. I react very badly to insect bites ( swelling, tracking, gluey feeling) but that's about it.

It sounds horrible though. Hope you're ok now. Ring your rheumy/ rheumy nurse and flag it up with them?
