Irrational behaviour from elderly parent with Giant Cell Arteritis

DF was diagnosed with GCA or temporal arteritis a couple of months ago. His eyesight is compromised, he is constantly hungry and is uncharacteristically aggressive because of the steroids he has to take.

Yesterday he urinated on a plate in the living room and told me he had an accident! This is the first time he has ever done anything like this and I am very worried about what it might mean.

Any ideas?

Sorry to hear this OP. I was diagnosed with GCA a couple of weeks ago and it's right that the steroids really mess with your head.

However, I am still managing to pee in the right place. I'd get the GP to look at your DF, just to make sure there's nothing else going on.

Increased appetite and psych changes are common side effects of steroids. Probably worth discussing the change in behaviour with the doctor managing his GCA.
