Codeine and Driving in England

Am I right in thinking that you cannot drive with any codeine in your system?

I know that in Scotland it is only an issue if it affects your driving, but I'm visiting England so wanted to clarify.

I take it as part of my medication regime for Psoriatic arthritis, which is why I posted here.

Ah ok great. I thought it was different in England and it was a yes or no.

I just wanted to provide a source for this since @Wilmalovescake is correct, but I think it’s also good to know the exact law yourself, as it makes it clear that the police have discretion to determine if you are unsafe to drive with any amount of codeine in your system. So, as I’m sure you know, you must be super, SUPER vigilant if you decide to drive while taking this medication, because any mistakes will be blamed on the medication.

You can drive after taking these drugs if:

• you’ve been prescribed them and followed advice on how to take them by a healthcare professional
• they aren’t causing you to be unfit to drive even if you’re above the specified limits
