Help with my Hashimotos!

Hi im 28 and just recently been diagnosed with Hashimotos, my sister has it and my dad had it too.
I had an ultrasound of my thyroid and it appeared all normal thank goodness as I've been suffering with globus sensation for nearly 4 months which may be gastric related though omeprazole didn't help at all.
I have a range of symptoms irregular periods, low mood, brain fog, depression and anxiety. Globus sensation/reflux feeling.

I'm on 50mcg of levothyroxine.

After 6 weeks on the thyroxine I had repeat bloods plus antibodies and GP states I'm ok on that dose now as I'm in the normal range, however I have Hashimotos due to high antibodies. I've only just got my print out of bloods and I'm disappointed in the TSH level now was hoping for it lower after things I've read online and also in neither test has T3 been measured which I am slowly finding out means quite a lot!

I just don't know where to go from here what steps to take next! Just given up gluten a few days ago to see if it helps the antibodies/brain fog.
Not sure whether to ask for referral to endocrinologist, to ask gp for more bloods with T3 levels shown and vitamin levels? Or to ask gp to trial a higher dose of thyroxine but I need a solid argument as to why with evidence to back it up. I like to be fully prepared however the brain fog is making it so hard to retain information!

I will post my blood results:

October bloods:

TSH - 18.39 (0.27-4.20)

Serum free T4 level - 11 (12-22)

Serum C reactive protein level - 2 (600 (

Once treated you should aim for a tsh of under 1. Also need to retest ft4 and ft3.
You might need to change doctors! An endocrinologist would be able to advise better than a GP.

It can take a while for levels to settle. I think I had regular dose increases for about six months until I settled on 300mcg daily. It’s fluctuated slightly over the years but I do need 250-300 mcg to stop me being a slug.
Once sorted, it’s not a huge issue.

You are probably a little under replaced as with hashimoto's the TSH should be at the lower end of the range. It takes months to settle but usually, once the correct dose is found the dose of thyroxine is stable and you will feel back to normal.

Btw, you should also get vit d, b12, folate and ferritin tested as these can often be low in hashimotos and without them at a healthy level, you won't feel much better even if your thyroid levels improve!

Thanks all that's a great help! Its nice to know I will one day hopefully feel normal again! I did read another website forum and it actually scared me more! Must remind myself not to Google symptoms anymore!

Bit of a zombie thread but please look at and consider joining the British Thyroid Foundation; a fantastic source of support and info. Some good videos to watch. Great helpline too.
