PUVA for psoriasis

Just wondered if anybody has had this & can tell me what it was like. Finally got a dermatology referral & he has referred me straight away for PUVA treatment, he said it was bad enough to warrant it straight away. If that has no impact that I have to go back.

Also have an appt for rheumatology finally, which is a relief but i'm anxious about it purely because i'm so used to GPs telling me my aches are nothing. Can anyone enlighten me on what to expect?

I'm hoping this is the start of getting things under control because currently i am miserable as hell

PUVA involves attending twice a week to go into a UVA cabinet. As uva alone doesn't do anything you need to have a psoralen prior to treatment- this could be a lotion, soak, gel or tablets. Tablets mean wearing uv400 glasses for 24 hours and they can make you feel a bit sick.

Thank you. It will be the bath soak as it is only on my hands

In that case it's likely you will be treated with a hand unit. You'll sit in a chair and place your hands palms down. If the backs of your hands are also affected there may be a canopy that goes over the top. You should still have to wear goggles to protect your eyes. The treatment time should increase each treatment if you have no issues.
