Thyroid blood test results- can someone explain this for me?

Had a blood test a few weeks ago, results came through last week but only got my printed copy today.

I know my TSH is higher than it ought to be but the other stuff is gibberish- can anyone help me make sense of it?

I have to have another test in 6 weeks but haven't been put on thyroxine or anything (yet). Not sure why as historically it's always looked like I was hypo. Had a lot of blood tests which suggested as much and was on thyroxine for a little while but it played havoc with my sleep (this was 7 or 8 years ago).

Have they done bloods for antibodies yet? If not then they'll probably do them when they repeat them in a few weeks.
Basically they want to see if your tsh is still elevated and if you have hashimotos.
Are you very symptomatic? If so and the next lot of bloods are still elevated then they should consider a levothyroxine trial to see if it helps.

Did your GP advise you to stop thyroxine when you were on it before? Did you try a lower dose?

I'm no expert, but from what I gather, thyroxine shouldn't cause any side effects at all if its the correct dose because it's just a hormone

TSH and FT4 don't show the full picture, but from your TSH alone your thyroid is struggling. You should be on medication.

When you have the next test, ask for FT3 and both antibodies to be included. They probably won't but worth a try. If not you can get it done via Medichecks for a reasonable price.

Whether you have hashimotos or not, you still need treating.

Also your free T3/T4 are better off near the upper limit of the range.

When you gt your next bloods make sure you don't take your medication before - this will give false results. You need to be 18 hours clear of taking the meds

Thyroxine stops your thyroid producing thyroxine. You shouldn’t start and stop it.

Fid you take in the mornings?

yummumto3girls · 12/02/2019 18:43

Did you take the thyroxine in the morning? If I take mine at night I don’t sleep!

AngeloMysterioso · 13/02/2019 10:31

I'm on 75mcg now- I take it before I go to bed, don't think it interferes with my sleep but I've never been a great sleeper anyway!

The recommendation is that Thyroxine is taken in the morning at least 30 minutes before any other medications or drinks containing caffeine.

Your TSH is too high, it should be optimised at about 1. Your T4 is quite low - it should be in the top third of the range. With your TSH out you are probably needing thyroxine. Why is there a six week wait to test again? They shoulda have retested stressful away to confirm hypothyroidism and start medication straight away. They may not because you T4 is in range, but if you’ve symptoms you should be treated I think.

I would be asking my go why they are not prescribing thyroxine with a TSH if 7.7 a s the parameters are up to 4.2 and you are well over that - go and ask the go the question?
Seems there is more to your medical history, so ask the quest
