Please give me your views on my thyroid results

I've had my results for my thyroid test come back from Medichecks. They all seem to be in range, but would be interested for peoples comments. I was wondering if I might have hypothyroidism since I have various symptoms (in particular low energy and depression) but can I now rule this out based on the tests below? I also had a RT3 test but results don't come in for another two weeks.

TSH - 1.73 (range 0.27-4.2)
Free Thyroxine - 18.2 (range 12-22)
Free T3 - 5.04 (range 3.10-6.8)

Thyroglobulin antibody

They all seem fine. Your TSH fluctuates throughout the day and the difference isn't significant.

I'd get your vitamin D, B12, folate and ferritin checked too if you haven't.

If you have, what were the results?

What other symptoms do you have and for how long? Did you notice them come on after any particular event or did it happen over time for seemingly no reason?

PinkGlitter22 · 19/07/2018 20:12

Yes I also had my vitamin D, B12, ferritin and folate tested. They were all within normal range although vitamin D was only just in the normal range so will try and get it up.

Other hypothyroid symptoms are feeling cold and sometimes muscle cramps but I only tend to get muscle cramps when i'm feeling run down.

I also got my cortisol and testosterone results back today. Cortisol was normal but surprisingly my testosterone is too high.

Testosterone was 1.86 when the range is 0-1.8. From a quick look online high testosterone seems to be mostly associated with PCOS and insulin resistance and I don't think I'm likely to have either of these conditions.

Can you post the actual levels of the vitamins? 🙂 Ranges are often far too low annoyingly. 'Normal' may be far from it.

Pinook · 19/07/2018 20:18

They all look fine to me. Well within ranges.

rainoclock · 19/07/2018 20:21

The results look good actually - you want your T4 to be at the upper end of the range which yours is.

PinkGlitter22 · 20/07/2018 19:41

Thanks for all your comments.

Vitamin and mineral results are:

Active B12 - 142 (range 25.1-165)
Folate (serum) - 11.97 (range 2.91-50)
Ferritin - 56.7 (range 13-150)
Iron-serum - 25.6 (7.2-28.7)
25 OH Vitamin D - 53.5 (range 50-200)
CRP (inflammation marker) - 0.35 (0-5)
zinc-serum - 972 (range 600-1200)
Magnesium-0.8 (range 0.75-1.00)

The results seem to be well in range except maybe Vit D and Magnesium slightly on the low side? Don't think those levels could explain my symptoms and poor memory?

and my cortisol was 221 (range 133-537) - they said that cortisol must be taken between 8am and 10am, and I had it taken at 9.30am.

Just received my RT3 it looks normal. Its 17 (range 10 to 24).

So looks as if my thyroid is all fine.

Whilst my cortisol is in range, wondered if it might be a bit low?

Your folate, ferritin and vitamin D aren't dangerously low, but they aren't optimal. The Vitamin D council recommends levels between 100-150. Folate and Ferritin in the upper third of the range. Your cortisol is not worringly low but is also slightly on the low side for a 9.30 test, my endo arranged a Short Synacthen Test based on similar levels. Discharged me when it came back normal though despite the baseline being on the lower side...

9amTrain · 20/07/2018 21:27

I wouldn't think your magnesium is a problem though, the range is tiny anyway and you're within it. :)

Thanks 9amTrain, I will appreciate it, very helpful information to know.

I have always had low vitamin D levels despite reasonably regularly taking Vit D supplements. I think I need to up the level of Vit D in my supplements and try and get more sunshine.

Really interesting to hear your thoughts on my cortisol level too. I should probably have my high testosterone levels looked into and I imagine that may involve a trip to an endocrinologist and perhaps I could then raise my cortisol levels then.

Thanks again Smile

Hi 9am, I've been reading some more online and it does seem that my cortisol level would warrant some further investigations, so thanks for flagging that up.

I've just posted on the General Health board for a private endo recommendation. I don't suppose you know any good private endos in the London area?
