Anal fissure, any advice?

I have Crohns colitis and have just had a flare up but now told I also have a fissure. It is agony, like being knifed every time I have a bm. I have been given Rectalgesic to heal and Instillagel to help with the pain. I’m not sure how long I can cope with this, it is truly agonizing. Anyone else have/had a fissure? Any comfort to offer?

Yeh. IBD is bloody brutal. I’m considering getting a permanent stoma in the new year. The symptoms are unmanageable and it has really impacted negatively on my quality of life. Having accidents weekly is not amazing. So enjoy the convenience of the bag while you have it!

Oh Feline you must be in a desperate way, it’s just such a horrible disease. A permanent bag would sort out those humiliating accidents. I hope whatever meds you are on give you some relief soon, you poor thing.

Go private.

My EX partner had one, was in agony for 2 years. GP kept fobbing him off with creams.

He couldn’t stand it anymore, so got a referral. He had a small op and it was sorted almost straight away. I remember the surgeon telling him that this wasn’t offered on the NHS and there must be millions of mothers suffering.

I had an anal fissure after the birth of my son.. he was a huge 9lb 11.5oz! Thankfully no other damage caused.

I ended up having a procedure down where they recut the fissure and stitched it then packed me up. It use to be like passing glass before but never had issues since. Hope you get sorted

I have one of these, it's so so painful you, have my sympathy. I manage mine with my diet... I find if I eat plenty of salads, stir frys and fibre high food and drink plenty of water it doesn't cause me a problem. Are you on any painkillers that are giving you constipation?

In this instance it’s caused by IBD. So it is a manifestation of active disease. IBD can’t be resolved by diet - it will only help manage symptoms. I’m on a low res diet to manage symptoms. If I ate a salad and all that fibre - it would make me horribly sick!

Usually a stool softener would be prescribed to ease the suffering of the exit. There is a great one that is syrup made from sugar cane. Or heavy duty drugs work too! Although I was on morphine and it didn’t do a thing. Ouch!

Sphincterotomy. No big deal and sorted my chronic fissure. After suffering 3 years tho.
