Hypothyroidism or Depression?

I've been feeling rubbish for a long while now and keep having to go back to the doctor. Main thing i've been treated for is low ferritin, but he's keeping an eye on my thyroid. My mum has hypothyroidism. Latest TSH is 4.33 with T4 13.8 which he says is 'normal' so now he's prescribed me anti-depressants. I'm just not sure I need anti-depressants, and think maybe my thyroid needs treating? Really don't know what to do.

Have picked up the levothyroxine - dose is 50micro gram every other day seemingly.

Weird?! Why not 25 daily? its definitely every other day?

I'd phone the dr and the pharmacist to double check and ask why not 25 daily. It should be ok but better to be a daily amount.

Yes I thought it weird. Will phone today to check.

Dispensary has just phoned me back to say that there was an error and it should be 50 daily!

If you haven't had tests done for B12, folate, ferritin and Vit D - you should get your GP to check those too.

It would also be worth asking to have thyroid antibodies tested too. One of the most common reasons for hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroiditis (aka Hashimoto's disease) and it is easily identified by above range thyroid antibodies.

Thanks, have had most of those checked and am being treated for low ferritin. I had the antibodies checked a couple of years ago and for some reason the lab won't retest them yet.

Did you ask for a copy of the results outnumbered77, so you could check yourself where your results fell on the ranges? You may find that none of them were that great.

Can you remember if your antibodies were positive at the last test?

No. Will do next time.
