Is Cat Sitting a thing?

Hey, We are currently in the process of applying for our skilled migrant visas

I currently run 2 successful businesses in the UK, initially I would take a job in management which would be the basis for my visa but if we do decide to stay and depending on the restrictions on my visa - is cat sitting a thing over in Aus?

Its a very profitable business over here and thinking of trying to replicate it.

Thanks

Yes it is. A lot of people house sit, but pet sitting at your home is a thing. There are Facebooks groups for pet sitters and commercial platforms like Mad Paws.

Thank you, I'll take a look at Mad Paws

I’m not sure how it could be a very profitable business tbh. The going rate where I live (Sydney) for someone to pet sit in your own home is $30 a day (so £15). Housing is very expensive so being able to stay in a nice place rent free is definitely factored into the rate. Cats are also very frowned upon where I live as they kill so much wildlife - most people have dogs - although maybe they are more fashionable in inner city areas. I literally only know one person with a cat but can’t think of anyone I know who doesn’t have at least one dog.

Plenty of people have cats in my neighbourhood, but they are increasingly indoor-only or kept indoors after dark. Some council areas have banned outdoor cats.

Oh thats a shame. Here in the UK alot of people have cats 😊 The business model would be pop in visits rather than house sitting for when people are away on holiday etc. Over here its very profitable and I can make between $300-400 per day

I think with the model you have, even if you could get the same number of regular clients, you need to consider population density and how much more spread out everything is in Australia compared to the UK. I imagine your travel time between clients’ homes could end up being 5x (or more) what it is now, depending on where you end up living.

Yes definately something to ponder on. Maybe won't be as profitable or as popular. Is there demand for oven cleaners?

Oven cleaners are definitely in demand.

Maybe that will have to be my initial focus 😊
