Whitsundays or Fiji

We're going to be in Sydney for most of March due to work/family and want to do a trip for a week to a beach resort.

Have any of you been to either Whitsundays or Fiji and would recommend one over the other? The other option would be to go to Cairns and spend time up there. Thanks.

I've been to both. They are very different. I would go to Fiji - the snorkelling and diving was unbelievable and the people were very friendly. It is a very different culture and I loved my time there.

Rarratonga and the Cook Islands is also very beautiful

Fiji for sure. The weather in Cairns in March will be like the humid fires of hell. Whitsundays are pretty but expensive.

Thanks, I'd rather Fuji I think but it looks like the rainy season.

I don't fancy the temperature of Hell in Cairns much, or the price of the Whitsundays. The accommodation looked quite reasonable, is it the cost of eating out etc that's pricey there?

Also Cook Islands look incredible but flights and hotels are a lot more.

We stayed with a local families which was about £6 a night all inclusive😂and we were next to the beach that a Japanese luxury resort used so we felt very fancy 😂. Some of the food took a bit of getting used to I will admit. I think Fiji has a massive huge range of prices and standards of accommodation/food. I worked at a local school for 2 months and had the time of my life. It's a proper adventure if you avoid resorts and although some parts of the mainline are best avoided in general we found it very safe and very friendly.
Avoid the little boats between islands thou - use Ferrys/speed boats recommended for tourists (we went on one and it sank a mile out to sea! - absolute madness)

The Cook Islands have some great budget accommodation but yes, the flights are very expensive.

That was shock at the boat sinking, it must have been terrifying.
