Flights to Sydney help

We're planning on going to Sydney in November 25 and I wondered if anyone could help advise on flights please?

We've never flown longer than 11 hours before and feeling a bit out of my depth with best way to do it.

Would you seasoned travellers recommend a short stop, in say Doha, for a few hours then powering on, or stopping off for a day or two to break it up? Where is good to stop?

Also when is the best time to book for November 25?

Any other tips would be great too.

DD has moved there for 5 years and we want to go but can't before then as we need to save.

We will need accommodation in Sydney too which I'm guessing will not be cheap.

Thanks

If you’re not used to long haul I’d do at least a nights stopover, preferably two. I could have cried when we had to get back on the plane in Singapore for another nine hour flight the first time we did it.

This is stupid question 24567 is there any way to see what type of plane it'll be or is that random?

Interesting to see some positive BA comments too.

Thanks everyone

Very exciting! I would ideally pick a stopover (even one where you just have 12-16 hours to sleep) but if you’ve only got two weeks would go straight through. Would pick a say 4 hour stop over so you can have a shower in a lounge and get changed, and not be too worried about a late first flight making you miss your second. I haven’t flown BA but most of the others mentioned and all fine. If flying Singapore watch out your second flight isn’t on Scoop / if it is it has been priced as a budget airline without tv, limited food/ drinks etc included. I would avoid transiting through the US as even if you’re planning to stay airside you have to clear immigration which can take ages!

Yes, when you look at the flight details on the airline’s website it will tell you what model of aircraft is used for that flight. A particular flight number will always use the same model.

For example, I’ve just looked up Singapore Airlines LHR > SYD. It shows the aircraft for each leg of the journey. That will be the same no matter what day of the week or date you fly.

I've done that flight 1-2x a year for the past 10 years covid excluded. Singapore and Cathay are probably best of the recent years. Depending on the length of your stopover it may be worth purchasing a priority pass membership to shower halfway and have somewhere quiet to sit.
