Looking to start the process to move over permanently, my partner is 39 however he is a bricklayer and has previously lived in aus for a few years.

I'm 35 with two children 4 & 6, would it be best for him to try and get a sponsorship? Or should we just apply for visas with a skilled trade?

I am trying to find the websites but there seems to be a million!!! There are ones where people doing it for you can't even find the proper government one.

Any links help or advice appreciated

You could maybe start here

It might be worth having a chat with an immigration agent, they would be able to go through your options. Definitely be mindful of the fact that even though the building industry is crying out for people here getting the right piece of paper to be able to work is essential. ResultsMayVary’s link is a great start.

There are massive changes coming over the next few months with the skilled visa system so I would wait to august then talk to an agent about costs and benefits as no one knows what it will look like and there is a halt on approvals for new applications just now pretty much. Does your partner have residency?

He is coming to an age where it is going to be harder to get here though and you are likely going to have to ensure you are happy to live in a “less desirable” place (I mean that might still be an awesome place but not Sydney Melbourne or Brisbane). Poms in Oz and reddit threads can be really helpful

Is your partner the father of the children?

Down under centre (DUC) are very good agents. My son spent a lot of money with another agent who was useless ... these are fairly on it! They have a Facebook page for their members, which is brilliant.

I’d highly recommend having a chat with Down Under Centre. We found them absolutely fantastic and moved over to Australia 18 months ago after using their service.
They have so many clients who a tradespeople so would definitely be able to offer you advice.
