How much in savings to emigrate

Evening all, my partner and I are seriously considering a move to Australia in the next 2-5 years. We live in rural Scotland, we love it here but the draw of moving to Australia was something me and my other half both had independently before we even met each other, and now we’ve completed our family it’s something we are seriously considering. I’m a nurse, my other half is a civil servant and has a masters degree in marine biology. We have three children aged 5 and under. Realistically, how much would you say we would need in savings in order to move? My partner and I are in our early thirties. We would be looking to rent somewhere with a view to buying a property a couple of years down the line if we decided that we wanted to stay in Australia. Any advice appreciated, thanks

I can't help personally as my circumstances were very different, but try https://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/31-moving-to-australia/

I don't know how lively it is these days, but it has many sub-forums.

I would suggest https://www.facebook.com/groups/MovingToAustralia and a Facebook group of the city in Australia you are interested in (example Brits in Melbourne - Australia (VIC)
You are a Nurse so it shouldn't be difficult to get a job offer with a visa attached to it and hopefully a good relocation package.
If you have to pay for the visas plus all the other relocation costs (plane tickets, shipping, temporary and long term rental accommodation, car, furniture / white goods and furnishing etc... you are looking at £30K plus.

I think the very first step is to check whether you’re BOTH eligible for visas and able to move there with children.

if you are, you may be able to get help from a nursing agency to help moving costs, as suggested by previous poster.

but please check out eligibility for your partner first.

Just a thought, but if your husband can get experience in the gas industry in Scotland, he may be better set up to work here for Woodside, Shell, Chevron etc. Nurses can get work anywhere.

Visas for residency cost a small fortune these days. I only left NZ with a backpack and $2K so I can't really advise but you ought to consider selling your furniture if it's not high end as shipping costs a lot more than a few pieces.

Also, dont need to buy new always. Gumtree is fantastic.
Did you want to go to the city or a regional place? You need more for the big cities. SA is cheaper so I'm told. Where I am has a shortage of rentals (outer north Brisbane) I'm talking 30 people to one show-through short.
