DH and I are moving from the UK to the north island next year, not entirely sure where yet but probably within a reasonable distance of Palmerstone

We have two DDs who will be 5 and 2 when we get there

What should we know before we go? Thanks!

It seems like your husband is calling a lot of the shots ? It's important that he listens to you too.

@shanghaismog what will your son be studying? Could he study at one of Massey's other campuses? If he's doing veterinary science the Manawatu Campus is excellent, and has the best research hospital in the whole country, so he will have access to some great opportunities. Same with almost anything agricultural. Palmerston North is a bit of a shithole, but it's not so far from Wellington, which is wonderful, and it is well connected by domestic flights to other parts of the country.

I would suggest getting quotes for moving, looking at what you'll need to buy - before you do anything. That means, visas, flights, whiteware - the lot. Because the cost of relocating to the other side of the world is a bit like building or renovating a house - take what you think it's going to cost and double (or triple) it.

Think about if something happens back home that means you have to be there, like yesterday, and the cost of air fares.

Hope for the best, prep for the worst.
