Rehoming puppy and cat

Urgenthelplease · 26/11/2023 00:22

My husband is insisting we rehome our 4 month old poodle and 5 year old cat. Both up to date with vaccinations and microchipped. I can't change his mind. I don't want to surrender to a sanctuary, I want to find someone direct. Any advice? I'm in Sydney.

Why?

Maxiedog123 · 26/11/2023 00:26

Could the poodle go back to the breeder?

bluebicyclebell · 26/11/2023 00:27

Surely there's only one creature in your house that needs rehoming?

QueenBitch666 · 26/11/2023 00:44

Can you rehome your husband instead? I certainly would

Lizzieregina · 26/11/2023 00:46

Did you get them from a shelter? If yes, I’d ask them to rehome as they will do proper vetting of prospective adopters.

But I’d first try to rehome your DH 🙄

CatChant · 26/11/2023 00:58

Rehome the husband not the pets.

But a reputable animal rescue shelter is better than a random stranger.

SD1978 · 26/11/2023 03:06

Poodle goes back to the breeder- that's usually in the co tract, and you can advertise the cat although I'd surrender it to a charity

Dustyblue · 26/11/2023 04:36

What's his issue with them? I'm not sure I could do this.

DcatAnnie · 26/11/2023 04:52

My local animal shelter will advertise (I’ve seen this in FB) private adoptions for people without actually taking the animal.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/11/2023 05:53

You must have literally just got the poodle. What happened.

Maxiedog123 · 26/11/2023 07:07

Was he not on board with getting the puppy in the first place? Or is allergic? Whatever a 4onth old poodle should be easily rehomed through the breeder or a reputable rescue. That would be better than trying to do it yourself for the dog.

But why the cat if you've had it for years.Whats changed. It will be much harder to rehome and may end up euthanized ? I'd be tempted to get rid of the husband instead (unless a good reason like severe allergy) as maki g you give up your pet for no good reason is awful

FiveShelties · 26/11/2023 07:12

Husband must go.

How long have you had the 4 month old puppy? Surely the breeder will take her/him back. But why did you get the puppy?

CallItLoneliness · 30/11/2023 04:17

Rehome the husband. Seriously.

Urgenthelplease · 30/11/2023 06:49

We had a proper conversation after he saw I was genuinely trying to rehome and he said he didn't mean it and was overwhelmed. It's the chaos of a puppy he's struggled with and the cat is being blamed for winding the puppy up (she isn't, she's very good bearing in mind he's the one approaching her).

DH has diagnosed OCD and the unavoidable toileting accidents have bothered him a lot. He didn't grow up with pets but was in agreement with getting both but I get the sense this was to make me happy vs any desire on his part. Either way they're staying.

@Urgenthelplease I’m glad the furry friends are staying.

Regarding the toilet accidents, you can avoid them by not allowing the puppy free reign if you can’t supervise. Keep him crated if you’re busy, and attached to you if you’re sitting down somewhere. He won’t pee within his own 3 feet radius, and if he can’t wander off, he can’t have an “accident”. Just make sure you take him out frequently.

SkaneTos · 30/11/2023 17:01

Thank you for the update, OP!

Urgenthelplease · 30/11/2023 20:41

I haven't crated him, he just barks till I let him out. We tried all the advice like making it cosy and putting toys and treats in. He cannot bear to be separated even if he's right next to you in it. I've also got young kids so it's too hard to have him on a one foot radius. I can't be tethered to the dog all the time.

I'm happy to hear the animals will stay safe with you!

HoppingPavlova · 01/12/2023 05:22

Can’t believe you contemplated it in the first place tbh.

hattie43 · 01/12/2023 06:47

Nobody ever would tell me to rehome my pets , they'd know the answer .
