Socialising/meeting young people (23) Rockhampton QLD

Hi, this is a bit of a niche topic but I’m running out of ideas! My dd (23) from Ireland is currently working near Rockhampton/Yeppoon QLD. She’s desperate to meet other people her own age just to socialise. They’re aren’t any possible leads through work. We’ve talked about yoga/running groups. She hasn’t had any response to a few Facebook posts. Can’t find an equivalent to meet-up or bumble friends. She probably just needs to give it more time or just get through it in other ways. But if anyone had any ideas she’d happily follow them up. She’s pretty sociable & easy going with range of interests. I’ve just run out of groups/venues to suggest & can’t see anything online. I think we’re both going round in circles a little!

Cliché, but has she tried screwing up her courage and sitting at the bar in the Irish pub? Wherever I've lived, that's where the expats hang out. Expats are easier to make friends with because they're all lonely too.

Otherwise team sports, especially very amateur level are easier than something like yoga because they're more likely to go for a beer after. Something like frisbee, underwater hockey or spikeball are a lot more chilled than waterpolo or field hockey. Martial arts tend to have a good community vibe. Hash house harriers and social running clubs (look for one with names like crew, junkies, project with good social media presence) are normal expat heavy.

Church is a good way too, but obviously not everyone's thing. Board game nights in shops or community centres can be good. Volunteering at community kitchens might work too.

I'm just thinking through what I and my friends did when we were new in town.

Found this running group The Cap Coast runners. It’s a good start to meet people. I used to live near Bundaberg and found yoga, an art class etc a good way to meet people. Working in a bar one night a week, maybe at a back packers? If she likes swimming the surf lifesaving club at Yeppoon .
good luck

Hi I wanted to say thank you so much for these suggestions. They were so thoughtful & helpful & much appreciated. I’ve waited to add more as I was hoping things would settle but she didn’t really settle & I couldn’t micromanage from here sadly. I’m sure it would have been perfect for the right person but it just didn’t suit her. I guess that’s part of exploring. As an aside I think if she’d have been up for the running/more active groups it might have worked but I hadn’t realised she wasn’t actually feeling fit enough to join those right now. Thanks again.
