Sydney self catering

Wonder if any Sydney Mumsnetters could help me.

My daughter (23) and I are going to be in the city for 3 wks in August as part of following the Womens football World Cup. DD will be there earlier than me and will stay in a hostel.

Once I arrive at end of July, we are thinking of getting a self catering appt/lodge (whatever) for at least a week (we are free my arrival until our first match on 12/8). We would be open to staying outside of the city during this time.

We would be looking for something with 2 rooms - DD refuses to share with me as I snore!

I know there is Airbnb, but can anyone advise any other companies specialising in self catering?

Also, any areas of the city and outer environs that we should avoid?

I should add that we are not hugely constrained on budget, although we are hoping SC will be cheaper than a hotel if we can cater for ourselves.

I'd start by looking at the serviced apartments - usually Mantra, Oaks, and Quest are reasonably located and equipped. You could try Bondi, Potts Point, Manly or Mosman if you fancy being near the water (different price points, atmospheres and transport /distances to the city so do some research to see what's likely to suit you)

Meriton also have serviced apartments in Sydney.

Mantra and Sebel have a number of different properties in Sydney with serviced apartments.

I haven’t used them in Sydney as I used to live there but have used them both when travelling. Don’t be put off by headline prices - long stay discounts do apply. You may wish to check online and then call direct to ask fir prices as they may be able to offer something better over the phone. That always used to work for me the past (but the past was more than 5 years go and I suspect things have changed).

It is Winter in Sydney, so make sure the accomodation you select has some form of heating. Many houses don't and trust me, you need it!
Avoid Kings Cross for noise and don't go too far West.
Avoid Blacktown, Mount Druitt, Liverpool...
Public transport is rubbish in some area, so check on https://transportnsw.info/trip#/trip how long it would take you to go places.

Most serviced apartments will be more expensive than AirBnb

Meriton and mantra are always reliable. You can also look on stayz.com.au
But like air bnb but I find it easier

Yes stay close to the northern or eastern suburbs ( or in the city). When you go west or south you can go a looong way. WIll take ages to get to matches ( assuming they are in the city).
Self catering - head to Woolies or Coles, they have everything you need . Have a great time. Sorry Woolworths is what it is officially. There is one of each of those supermarkets in almost every largest suburb. Heaps of great take away too - particularly Thai.
