Any Aussies not fond of summer?

Born and bred in Melbourne and I’ve always hated summer. Not so bad where I live now near the Bellarine Peninsula, my unit stays cool mostly and we get lots of sea breezes. Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons, I get to wear all the jumpers I’ve made and not have to drown in sweat and slather on sunscreen every time I set foot outdoors. (Still better than when I lived in Queensland, the humidity was dire.)

Any other no-thanks-to-summer outsiders here? :)

Rural SA here, we can get up to 45d. I like it a lot better since we put a pool in.

ladycardamom · 29/04/2023 03:43

Me! I'm in Brisbane. I mostly prefer cooler because I love winter fashion!

Catsmere · 29/04/2023 06:24

So do I! I knit and I want to be wearing what I make. Only good thing about humidity is it improves my curls, and I can do that with tap water anyway.

I love the summer and felt very cheated by the weedy one Melbourne had 22-23. I live close to the sea, so it doesn't get horrendous.
Autumn is lovely, the best season I think, though again we've only had bit of the usually glorious Victorian one. It was 4 degrees last night and sunny as right now, so down to the beach to walk the pooch and give him an incidental bath.

Catsmere · 30/04/2023 02:53

I was relieved summer was so mild, lol!

It’s a beautiful autumn day in Geelong today, sunny with crisp cool air. Got down to about 5° last night, glad I had the mobile hot water bottles sleeping on the bed even if it did mean I could hardly move!

I like Autumn. Warmish sunny days, dark at reasonable time, no frost on windscreen in the morning.

Catsmere · 30/04/2023 04:17

And no blasted daylight saving for most of it!

😱

Bite your tongue! I hate that I have hardly any day light left to do anything outside now that daylight savings has finished....

Melb born & bred too, now on the breezy (read howling with wind at times) south coast. I'm convinced I dealt with heat better when I was younger.

I remember the camaraderie among people during the big heat stretches, sometimes over 40 for days followed by a massive thunderstorm where people ran around in relief.

At least last summer was mild. Early 30's is about as I can take outside, when the indoor temp hits 25 on goes the aircon.

Wonder if there are any NT mumsnetters? They could put us all to shame I'll bet!

I like all seasons in Qld, but I am not a fan of the weeks from Aust Day until the end of Feb. The AC is well and truly on then! Right now it's lovely though!

blueled · 30/04/2023 13:16

Early February can be hell where I live. The nights where it doesn't got below 30 and the humidity makes you want to LOSE YOUR DAMN MIND.

ladycardamom · 30/04/2023 13:32

Had a lovely walk today with the dog, I love the cooler weather. I'm currently sitting on couch with my feet under said dog cos it is a little chilly tonight!

Agrona · 01/05/2023 07:14

Hate summer. It is brutal.

Catsmere · 01/05/2023 07:16

February is the worst month wherever one is, it seems - winter or summer!

Not born an Aussie, but been in Adelaide for 17 years. I bloody hate the heat. It never, ever, ever, needs to go over 28 - and that's only useful for wanting to swim outside. 25 is perfectly hot enough for me. I adore Spring, Autumn and Winter in SA!

sausage767 · 01/05/2023 07:49

Born and grew up in Brisbane, but now live in Melbourne and country Victoria. Summer is tolerable here because it cools down overnight and isn’t humid. I hate hate hate having to go back to Brisbane in summer. And spring and autumn aren’t very good either.

Yep, not a fan at all! In high summer you can’t wait for the sun to bloody set!

Fooksticks · 01/05/2023 07:52

Love summer! But I actually love all the seasons. I don't think I could live somewhere where it's hot all the time. After a long hot summer, I'm ready for a cold winter. I live in Melbourne and the weather is perfect for me.

So true, and you’re coming home from school or work in the hottest part of the day - no shade anywhere.

I hate Adelaide summers. I swear I get a form of SAD when it’s sunny, hot and dry for weeks on end. Hot nights are the worst. I’m not really a beach / pool person (apart from dog walks when not too hot).

I’m more than happy to do a European winter holiday with the added bonus that I can escape the summer heat at the same time. Even better if I can mix it with a ski trip. Plus places like Venice and Florence are so much less busy in the off season.

At times I feel like I was born in the wrong place. Would be more than happy to have been born in the UK.

margarine17 · 04/05/2023 14:29

Absolutely hate summer. Hide inside with the aircon on full blast. ( I think it's like the opposite of the northern hemisphere that have their heating on). Love the other seasons. Autumn is the best.

You are me - I blame it on my Celtic heritage!!

Same! I’m not fond of spring when it gets sticky, though I always loved seeing the blossom trees in flower (there aren’t any near where I live now, sadly). But autumn and winter, yes please. We had a burst of perfect autumn weather just as April ended, sunny but crisp and cool instead of being mid-20s. Then that crazy high wind and sideways rain day this week - 115kmh wind gust at Frankston beach! Good day to stay inside and knit.

I'd love just a touch of summer for a little while please!

It's cold, wet and miserable here today. I'm not ready!!!
