Quickest adding a board I’ve seen so I thought it deserved a starter thread! What are your winter activities/getaways with young kids? We love halls gap and are doing a few days there, plus are doing a beach weekend with friends. All with young kids. We aren’t skiiers, I’m tossing up whether we should try and take them all every few years.

How young is young? I think a trip to the snowfields would be amazing and it is only 3 hours way. All kids love the snow!

Oh we will definitely do a snow trip, probably next year when youngest is 2. I’m more wondering about the effort and cost of doing skiing- buy/hire/borrow clothes, hire all the gear, find somewhere to stay and book lessons, hope for snow…

We often go to Philip Island or Inverloch for a stay over Winter - very different feel to the place than Summer. You could always go up to Lake Mountain for the day and hire the meat trays to do some sleding!

Snow clothes - go to your local Vinnies or Red Cross. Perfect for growing children! The clothes are in really good condition because they are barely used.

We used to have a place along the Surfcoast and it was lovely in winter, no crowds, eerie misty mornings. Properly rugged up, the kids loved the beach even in the coldest of days.

I agree Phillip Island is lovely too, in a rugged windswept sort of way!

Daylesford has lots of cosy AirBnbs too.

Peninsula Hot Springs is fabulous on a cold winter day.

I’m headed to alba hot springs with girlfriends this weekend which will be perfect! Dh and I had a childfree weekend in Daylesford a few weeks ago which was just lovely. Our beach weekend with friends is Inverloch, but it’s at a big4 and the kids may not really want to leave the playground. We don’t usually go away every few weeks, I guess we are just post covid, post baby is small and doesn’t sleep…

I love a misty winter morning, so for me it's Warburton or the Dandenongs for scenic bushwalks and good food.

If I'm going the other way, I scoop up the rellies in Geelong and head to Point Addis for the ocean swims and rugged cliffs! Ballarat and Bendigo are lovely for quick inland escapes too.

Have you ever seen little kids in ski lessons? They pick it up so quickly! And their centre of gravity is so low they can do all sorts of stuff in skis, insane!

My DS completely freaked his instructor out because he skipped the side to side and just went straight down, grinning the whole way down. (Pretty steep slope in the US!)

Grampians can get snow in winter. For snow play, I like Lake Mountain. Just one and a half hours out of Melbourne. It's the closest to the city and you can hire gear. Sometimes Mt. Macedon gets some snow. I don't like to holiday in winter. Too cold for me.
