I am trying hard to use my fledgling watercolour skills to make our Christmas cards this year. I posted earlier in arts and crafts and got some help.

This is about my 30th attempt at a tree. I have decorated it and used a stamp and gold embossing powder for the greeting.

Will I embarrass myself if I send this out? I have been making cards for years, but using almost all stamps and dies. All opinions and suggestions welcome.

I really like it Smile

Handmade cards are always the best! It's lovely and I think people will appreciate the thought.

(Also, how organised are you?)

elQuintoConyo · 09/09/2021 23:24

It's lovely.

I always hand make mine (only about 15 a year) and last year was my first watercolour - yours is better Grin

I'd be delighted to receive yours.

I like it and actually think that the gold stamp stamp devalues it (makes it look more mass produced). Could you paint or write a (personalised?) greeting in that corner instead?

I like it! Without the gold lettering bit it would be even better I think. Just the tree in the corner exactly where it is would be lovely.

Thank you all. I expect I will change it up a bit as I make them.

These are some oddly shaped cards but I can use my A7 rectangle dies to cut the watercolour paper and mats. They are not a regular A3.

I need to start early as we are in Canada with lots of relatives and friends in England. The mail is very slow.

Besides, it's just fun! My DH was very hesitant about all the stuff I was buying to make cards a few years ago. He kept saying you'll get bored and quit. Nope. I have about 20 floral painting cards ready to donate to the local children's hospice.

Yes, the gold lettering does have a more finished rather than rustic look, you are right. I puzzled over how to add the sentiment.

My handwriting is terrible after decades of taking notes in hearings and meetings. But I will see what I can come up with. Fiddling with stamps, Versamark and gold embossing powder is a bit messy as well.

I really like 🙂

I really like your card. I can see it's a tree, and read the greeting.
In some paintings I struggle to see what they are so look out for hints from other people. But I'm also terrible for seeing pictures within other pictures & patterns!
I hope your family appreciate your art as much as we do.

Lovely

omfgimgettingmarried · 19/10/2021 06:25

That's lovely!

Thank you so much everyone. I now have enough cards of that decion, plus a few more of a very loose painting of holly with pen doodles over top.

I appreciate your feedback!

It’s beautiful! Please share a picture of the holly one too!

LoveFall · 27/10/2021 23:15

Design for goodness sakes.

Oh, and I used a faded photograph ink instead of versamark, and topped it with an iridescent embossing powder. Still shiny but more subtle and much crisper.
