Can someone tell me what a die cutter is...

And what it is used for?

Don't really understand what it's for, or if it's what I need.

I want something that will cut shapes out of cardboard, various shapes, I want apples, hearts etc. DIfferent sizes, and want a nice finish, and can't cut straight for toffee.

So I have been googling, and various die cutters came up, but don't even know what a die is, so if someone can enlighten me, I will be very grateful.

try looking for 'Sizzix'. It's exactly as you describe - a machine that cuts shapes. You buy the different dies (shapes, images, letters etc).

Try ebay... sizzix machines were very popular a few years ago.

its a machine that cuts out the same shape from card. each 'die' will cut one shape. so its good if you want loads of the same shape but not so good if you want lots of different shapes as you will have to buy loads of different dies. hope this helps.

Oh I see, thanks.

If you want to cut thicker materials such as cardboard, felt, you are better off looking at something like a Sizzix and the larger "original dies" rather than the thin ones. The thinner metal dies will only really cut through paper and some thickness of card stock.

I have got...erm...a few die cutting machines(3 now.) I started small and then got a bit bigger and better. I use mine all the time for my cards.

HTH's

Ive got an old style Sizzix and a Sizzix Big Shot Pro, would recommend both, they're really good.

Remember that the Sissix will also cut other manufacturer's dies as well. I use mine all the time and have many dies. I especially love the Spellbinders dies - wafer thin (so, easy to store) and such a variety of shapes that can be used in many different ways.

I love my Nesties....I am also getting a nice little collection of others such as Nelllie Snellen frames,Marianne Creatables and Joy Craft dies!

I rarely use my older Sizzix original dies but wouldn't part with a lot of them.

You can buy die-cut shapes on eBay from people who own the cutters, if you only need a few.

thus

I love my Nesties too and use them far more often than any other dies. I have loads of Sissix dies that I rarely use and they do take up such a lot of space. Is anyone interested in swapping/selling unwanted dies?
