I bought a lovely cotton knitted jumper in a charity shop. I have worn it loads ansd would like to knit another one but I can't find a pattern.

If I describe it can someone please help?

Knitted in stocking stitch, it is quite wide and loose fitting with a round neck, a little lower than crew neck, but not scoop. The sleeves are long and bell shaped. It comes down to my hips.

I was thinking of just having a go at making one but I am not the most confident of knitters, though I can follow a pattern.

Your help will be much appreciated.

If it is a knitted jumper can you not work from the thing itself?
You would need to start with working out the tension, marking out a 10x10 cm square and counting rows and stitches, so you can match the yarn. Then just counting the jumper and copying it. It's a bit of a faff, but should be possible.

I was thinking of trying that, I have a Knitters' Handbook that gives lots of clear guidance. I know I can do the basics but I am a bit concerned about the shaping.

I find knitting very soothing so I could use a project at the moment. AND I can avoid the ironong again!

I'll get some yarn on ebay and give it a try, I'm off to look now! Thanks EM

Make sure you get yarn that you can do the jumper with, so work out the tension first, then match the yarn.
Keep the original jumper handy and keep counting the stitches that they have done
