do people really care about pink for a girl, blue for a boy?

I'm halfway through knitting a stripy baby blanket for my pg sil. The more I look at it, the more the 'arctic grey' stripe looks 'baby blue'. All the other stripes are neutral beiges and browns. Would it be silly to go and buy some pink wool and add a stripe in to even it out?

Will sil realise that I've put flippin' hours of effort into this blanket or be miffed that it looks like I've decided she's having a boy?

Should I even be worried?

When it comes to in-laws, is anything capable to offend?

Personally I'm not really mad on all the gender stereotyping. I haven't made anything pink for DD2, and am crocheting a blue top for her atm. If I received a hand knitted blanket as a gift I would feel hnoured that somepne had put in all that effort for me

Thank you charchar, I'm sure that's how it'll be received, thinking back she commented that it was refreshing that we bought her dd1 a green dress when she was born, so I'm sure the colour of 7 rows isn't going to start a family feud! I wouldn't put it past her mil though, who has it in for me. I'm sure it'll be too thick/thin/fluffy/rectangular no matter what I do

Am v jealous that not only can you crochet but that you can do real, actual garments. Tried a sock once and decided to stick to squares from then on!

Thanks again.

Just seen this. Sod mil etc! I'm sure the blanket is beautiful.

I taught myself to crochet because DD2 was bfing all the time and I couldn't sew. I used loads of internet tutorials to figure it out and it wasn't so hard in the end! I'm lazy so I like it because it's quicker than knitting.

I don't buy DD pink things, except for clothes. She drinks from blue and green cups, for example. So I would be pleased regardless of what gender my baby was w a blanket that had blue/grey in it, and would be delighted if it was handmade.

One of my fave baby presents for DS was a hand-knitted blanket, it got so many compliments and the colours were pale blue, aubergine and cream (honest it's nicer than it sounds!), the knitter didn't know if DS was going to be a boy or girl and we would have used it if he had turned out a she!

Thanks CharChar, Bunny and Libra,

Baby Boy was born yesterday going to visit in a few mins, and when I get back, I think I'll name-change to PsychicKnitter. All that worry about nothing!
