Is there still a thread where you can ask knitters to knit you things?...

Hi,

I'm sure in the past I have seen a thread where experienced knitters have offered their services...
I have seen the loveliest pattern for an apple tree blanket (which I originally saw somewhere in the knitting threads when I was pregnant with DS1). I am now pregnant with my second child and would love to have one knitted. I have the pattern and the wool and thought one of our lovely craft ladies at church would be able to knit it up for me (as my own knitting is very very very basic!). However, I understand it is quite difficult and they haven't been able to do it, and so I thought I would ask on here.
Thanks

That would be a fab idea. I love knitted things, but am hopeless at it.

GillianLovesMarmite · 21/06/2010 21:26

I'm sure it existed previously. It's just a shame as the set up we have at church is really good. You provide the pattern and the wool, the ladies at the craft group knit the item up and then the 'charge' is a realistic donation to the church funds. We've had a few things, including a fab noah's ark knitted this way, but the blanket was beyond them...

a blanket of that sort would take an inordinate amount of time and hard work. weeks and weeks. it would cost a bomb if you compensated someone for their time.

your best bet is to ask a family member, or learn to knit yourself.

good luck

GillianLovesMarmite · 21/06/2010 21:31

This is true, but I had wondered if there were any knitters who would knit for the love of it (and providing a new baby/child with something lovely), perhaps in return for a donation to charity...
I just thought I had seen a thread at sometime in the past about this and thought I would see if I could find it.
It's no big deal if I don't or the blanket doesn't happen.

there was a thread for ravelry users to knit/crochet somethign for free for people having a new baby and who had no knitters in teh family, but it was mainly quick things using up stash, that woudl take weeks as warthog said so might not be possible, I know I couldn't.

You can but ask though!

QualityTime · 21/06/2010 21:37

Do you mean this?
WOW! it is gorgeous, and way beyond me

QualityTime · 21/06/2010 21:38

doh, is it this one?

(still way beyond me I'm afraid)

MarionCole · 21/06/2010 21:39

It was DutchOma who was the knitter and I was the recipient (or rather RS was) of the apple tree blanket. I haven't seen her around for a long time.

MarionCole · 21/06/2010 21:40

That's the one QT (the second one)

treedelivery · 21/06/2010 21:40

That's lovely.

I asked in a wool shop. The ladies there might be willing, or know someone who is.

A lady in a shop I wandered in to was prepared to knit for £2 a ball. I nearly kissed her!

QualityTime · 21/06/2010 21:41

Have put a shoutout for you. Like I say, no harm in asking.

QualityTime · 21/06/2010 21:43

xposts marion, I didn't realise one had been knitted. There was another thread recently for a mothers day thign as well.

GillianLovesMarmite · 21/06/2010 21:49

Thank you - it was indeed the rowan apple tree blanket - I love it! and I would love to have one! I might try on the Ravelry thread as I am on there too - as it's a nice place for a novice knitter!

Marion - you were very lucky - I was very envious at the time (and still am!) it's a lovely blanket!

It was me!!! I did the appletree blanket and it isn't that hard. Haven't seen the full thread, but someone posted on Ravelry, so I thought I'd put a quick reply on here and catch up later.

DutchOma · 22/06/2010 08:46

Oh yes, I see, I had been rumbled already. Was a different user name at the time.
I am a bit busy at the moment, because I am looking to do a Debbie Bliss alphabet blanket and I'm in te middle of a Fair Isle cardigan, so not in the next week or two

sazziej · 22/06/2010 10:45

Ooh I love that pattern, a bit beyond me at the moment, but you never know.... one day

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 22/06/2010 10:51

Wow, that's a lovely blanket.

MarionCole · 22/06/2010 19:58

DS still won't go to bed without his blanket DutchOma!

DutchOma · 22/06/2010 20:01

Were you GiddyKipper?

MarionCole · 22/06/2010 20:04

Sorry, yes, I've name changed since then.

KnitterInTheNW · 22/06/2010 20:08

I made an apple tree blanket for my DS while I was pregnant, and it took a long time.

I've since made a couple for friends babies, but with only 1 apple tree and the rest just plain knit/purl squares. They look lovely too.

I can't even find time to knit the milion things I have on the go already at the moment, so can't offer to make one for anyone else...

Disenchanted3 · 22/06/2010 20:09

Beautiful blanket

If I could knit my children would be head to toe in wool

ali11 · 23/06/2010 19:55

Hi
I like to knit , perhaps if you want to e-mail me the pattern I could have a look and could give you a price for knitting it, as you have wool and pattern my e-mail is [email protected]

GillianLovesMarmite · 24/06/2010 08:43

Hi,

thanks for the responses - I will email you ali1 - thank you for the offer. It's been a couple of days since I've been on as my iron levels are low (I'm 28 weeks pregnant) and I've been going to sleep more or less straight from work! Still, had blood test yesterday and will know by Friday is that's the problem and hopefully be able to do something about it!

Dutch Oma - thank you for your message - I will sign up to CAT and reply properly as I haven't been on for ages, but with maternity leave approaching I sense a lot more of my time will be spent here, but let me know if you're up for knitting another one!!
Best wishes,

Gillian.
