I have precut the hearts out of fabric and when I try to use the sticky paper I stick it to the ironing board and get the glue everywhere!

I am following the instructions on the packet -sticky paper, paper faces up, medium heat iron but it's all going horribly wrong!

I have previously sewn my applque fabric on then edged with running/blanket stich. This takes forever but is so much easier...

Ah, I normally iron the stuff onto the fabric before cutting the shapes out. Far less messy and makes the cutting much easier too.

That doesn't help you at all this time though. Sorry.

I'll have a think.

My only "top tip" is to put the fabric & bondaweb (which I think is what you're using?) in between two sheets of greaseproof paper before you iron them - that way if you have the bondaweb the wrong way round (as I often do ) you won't end up gluing anything to your iron / ironing board!

Ok, trying to come up with a suggestion as you've pre-cut the fabric. All seems a little long winded, however:

Either use the template you used for the fabric to cut bondaweb shapes or pin/tack fabric to bondaweb, cut around the shape. Pin/tack together if not done earlier. Iron in greaseproof paper sandwich as Monkeynuts suggested.

thanks all knottylocks that worked -thank you!

Am normally pretty good at these things but I did it all in the wrong order and then couldn;t figure out how to still use the fabric cut outs.

Excellent. Would advise doing it as my first post next time. Sooooo much easier.
