advice on covering dining chairs with fabric

i've seen it done on tv, about a decade ago. dh has bought some fabric, and thinks i will be able to do this. ive googled, hoping to find some sort of guide on how to do this, but havent found anything.

any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. they are wooden dining chairs, with only the base that you sit on being covered in fabric.

It is quite easy to do.
If you can remove the old cover you could use this as a template for the new ones. Make a note of how the corners are done.

If the old cover is not removeable then just take your time and do the working out bit before you start cutting.

Use a soft tape measure and measure the base from front to back and where it tucks underneath and again, from side to side.

Is there a pattern on the fabric? Do you want this to be in the same place on all the seats. You could mark this out on the back of the fabric with a pencil or chalk. You will also see then if you do have enough fabric to do the whole job.

A staple gun is best, I think, to attach the fabric. Dont skimp on the staples. First edge to do is the front one, then the back, then, on the sides work from the front end up towards the back. Try to keep an even pressure on the fabric when stapling. Two pairs of hands are best for this.

Make sure the fabric is reasonably sturdy, ideally furnishing fabric. Dead easy to do, exactly as size6feet says, although if the existing covers are in reasonable nick (i.e. not actually ripped) you can leave them in place and just put the new fabric on top.

thank you. thats exactly the sort of help and advice i was hoping to get.
the material is a sort of leather look alike. actual leather was sold by the hide, so rather expensive, this was only a tenner per meter

do i do the corners last? or after doing first the front, then the back, i start with the front corner? or leave them for the end?

only one cover is ripped, they are just filthy( pure white fabric bought pre children,). i was planning on leaving them on.

Once you start on the first one you will see what works best for you re the corners.
