Inspired by JB's thread about finally learning to knit, I finally bit the bullet and taught myself to crochet.

I bought Debbie Stoller's The Happy Hooker ages ago and handily had a free from knitting mag crochet hook.

Yesterday I managed single, double, triple, circles, v-stitch and shell stitch - Yay.

Does anyone have any cool, easy-for-a-beginner crochet patterns they could recommend?

That said, I am not sure I have time for crochet as I have just about finished my first knitted sock and can feel the sock knitting obsession starting.

Visit Lucy's blog -Attic24 (google it).
You'll never put your crochet hook down.

Also, join Ravelry. There are zillions of groups and patterns.

Thanks for your suggestion - the blog looks lovely.
I am already on ravelry but I am struggling to work out what is likely to be doable for a beginner.

Well done Chewy! I've just learnt to crochet too! Must be something in the air. I love the Happy Hooker!

Well done! Try lion brand website as well, lots of easy patterns. Amigurumi are a good thign to start with as they are nearly all english double crochet and veyr fast.

Amurigumi are very cute but I can't help thinking I should be making something useful! Maybe I should just think of them as essential skill-building.
How is the knitting going Jack?

I love Attic 24 - the little bird is genius!!

Also try The Purl Bee www.purlbee.com/ - free knitting, crochet and sewing patterns from a v cool NY yarn shop. You can make a giant granny square blanket pretty easily (instructions for a granny square on purl bee, and then just keep going!)
