World Cup/Football related craft for a toddler group?

Has anyone got any simple ideas for a football related craft for a toddler group for 2 to 4 year olds? My only idea was to get ping pong balls for them to decorate and use straws to blow them along. As I can't find a supply of ping pong balls I am back to the drawing board.

Any inspiration anyone??

I hadn't thought of that - we need some ideas for craft.

Make and decorate some footballs out of paper plates?!

make flags? England flags mainly - just paint in the red bits, but if supporting a diff team have supplies of other paint available if needed?

make world cups? add decorations, base and handles to a plastic cup - maybe with tinfoil?

Thanks for the ideas. We did flags for St Georges day so as I have a large supply of paper plates I think we'll use those - and maybe make a simple mobile hurrah I knew MN would sort me out!!

How about cutting out little players with just top halves and shorts, with two holes for fingers cut in the shorts so they're like puppets?

That was a horrible explanation.

Link: examples - just adapt to be like footballers, with national strips.

And a possible alternative to ping pong balls? Very cheap too.

How about a group picture making activity? Large piece of paper, blobs and paint, and roll balls through it. Hee hee

Wow BUnderthebonnet you are a crafty lady! I love the craft balls, there is a craft shop up the road I will see if I can get some (won't have time to order from Amazon). I love the puppet idea too, might save that for another occasion. Might avoid the messy one !

Thanks so much for the inspiration .

What about cutting out trophy shapes from card and letting the children to decorate them using tin foil, buttons, string, flags.

we are making our own bunting using A4 paper with the st georges cross (get the children to paint it) and folding the top of the paper over some string and securing with sellotape.

Have fun..

For my playgroup i'm cutting out white circles and then cutting potatoes to make hexagon shapes and when you print with black or dark blue it looks just like a football. I'm also going to print out little fifa world cup 2010 logos to stick on their footballs.

You should get ping pong balls at a sports shop quite easily. They probably won't roll very easily if decorated though!
Another option may be paper/polystyrene balls that you can get at craft stalls (or on line at shops like fred aldous)

What about decorating fairy cakes by making icing sugar (icing sugar and water) or rolling out pre bought white icing and then using strawberry laces or red icing tubes to do the red cross for england flag?
Can do the same with rich tea biscuits which is cheaper if cost an issue.

White paper plate and use a sponge to print black or blue hexagons to make a football.

Draw a large football shirt shape on A4 paper, photocopy and get them to cut out and decorate/colour. If you want you can introduce the idea of a numbered shirt or even writing their name on it too for older children.

Or if you have some of that felt with paper backing and single whole punches (my old pre school did) then pre cut out white circles and punch holes around endges. Let the children lace the circles together and stuff with newspaper, decorate with felt heaxagon shapes to make look more like footballs.

Face painting, white face with football hexagons added, or small circles just on their cheek. Maybe use a mirror and let them do their own...Maybe not?!

Use a large size cereal box to make a football game. Cut off the front of the box and lay on it's back to leave a tray shape, paint it green inside for the grass, make two goals from smaller boxes, roll up a piece or newspaper for your ball and use your fingers to kick it along.

Wow, just realised that I miss working at play school...
