I really like this blanket, and am quite new to crotcheting.

I know it's double crotchet, and I can do the squares, but I have a few questions.

  1. How do I do the double crotchet in white, connecting the squares together? I don't know how to attach them together using that stitch. How has she done that?

2)Her edges are really neat on all 4 sides of her squares. 2 of the side of my squares are a bit uneven, making it look a bit untidy. How do I remedy that?

Hope you can help. I Really want to do it...

Right it's not easy to explain but here goes:
get your first 2 squares and place them right side to right side exactly on top of each other. Choose one edge and starting in the corner attach your wool and do your row of double crotchets putting the needle through both squares at once, i.e double thickness. Just do along one edge. Break off wool and straighten work out you'll see a nice join.
Get your next square and join it to one of the ones you've already joined and do the same - you'll then have a row of three.Carry on like this It'll soon be done.

The edges are neat because the crafter has done 2 or 3 rows of double crotchet around the outside edge once blanket squares have all been joined.

Practice really does make perfect. If you find the blanket defeating you could instead just do an ever increasing square. You can use lots of colours or just one or two. Baby DK wool makes a nice cuddly soft blanket. You could still put the little flower pattern things randomly over the blanket.
Good luck !

sounds like you crochet at the same level as me! just started with granny squares and have made 8-will n ow try to double crochet them togethr

Hmm, I am having trouble keeping my squares the same size.

I put the same number of stitches in the base, but somehow they are all slightly different!! Grrr.

Chinwag, Are you starting your squares from the middle and working outwards into an ever increasing square? They should be equal sizes if you do them all with same thickness of wool and needle.

Chinwag · 26/05/2010 22:31

No, I am doing chain of about 23, and then double crotchet, upto the size of a square.

The wool is the same thickness.

I think I need some practice!!

I thought by doing it from the middle and then would have to have corners with holes. I noticed on the video they didn't have any, which I like. Do you think there is a better way of getting that result?

Doing from the middle does create a small space at the corners, that can't be avoided. If you want it to look just like the video you'll have to persevere I'm afraid, practice, practice, practice makes perfect!
