Where can I get a scanned picture printed onto a tapestry canvas?

There is a long and fascinating (to me) story if anyone wants to hear it, but the short version is that I have some pictures in a book that I want to have printed onto a tapestry thingy (is it called canvas?) so that they can be stitched into seat covers.

I have seen chairs being printed on 60 minute makeover (not that I watch it or anything you understand)so it must be done somewhere, will have a look.

I've googled a bit, but I can only find companies that do a chart for you, I think my Mum would prefer it to be printed onto the canvas.

The long story is we are moving to live near my family this summer. My grandmother died recently and left the contents of her house to the grandchildren. As part of my share I'm getting a dining table and chairs. The chairs are in ok condition but my mother has become fixated on recovering the seats with needlework.

Now I'm delighted with her offer it'll look gorgeous, but this is a bit of a bitch of a move because we are keeping our flat in London so I have to decide what's staying and what's going and organise the purchase of all the things that need to be duplicated. We are moving country so there will be lots of bureaucratic things to do (like sorting out the car, gp, getting a social security no for the DC). We will only get the house a week before DS starts school. Dining chair seat covers are just about the bottom of my priority list, but strangely still at the top of my mother's priority (I think she's a bit short of projects at the moment).

So, after weeks of sending me links to various needlework sites and long phone discussions about the merits of different designs (she doesn't want to do them all the same because she'll be bored) DM has had an excellent idea. There is a gorgeous rug made by my grandmother which I have also inherited which features paintings from a horticultural book (I also inherited the book). When my grandmother made the rug she sent the book to the Royal School of Needlework and they handpainted the design. But obviously technology has moved on so I told my DM I would find somewhere to get the canvas printed up if she could scan the pictures. I'd love to get the whole thing sorted out and sent to her to get her off my back keep her happy before I get bogged down with the nitty gritty of moving.

So, story is long. Whether it's interesting is debateable.

I think Chunkermunker's first link might be just the thing. It's a bit of a pain that I have to also send them the canvas but at least it's printed directly onto the canvas. The other sites do charts, which I think my DM would find more fiddly.

Thank you everyone for your great searching.

Have I sent you all to sleep with the length and dullness of my story? My grandmother's rug really is beautiful, you would be impressed if you could see it.

I didn't understand the question, didn't spot crossstitch thought it was just a photo to be scanned, I think gigglewitch wins

bran · 02/05/2010 22:27

at you thinking it was a scan picture. I think my dinner guests might be a bit relucant to park their bums on that.
