I had made a couple of eye masks for a friend's 13 yr old DD after she saw one I had made and requested it, then as I was sewing in teh ends at the PTA coffee thingy another mum asked for 21 pink glitter masks for a hen party! I suggested a price and she was happy to pay it!

Best get some more pink wool

Well done Jack

I started a small business last year (soaps initially but now also corchet, knit and hand sewn goods) and have been busy ever since. Amazing what comes your way when yous tart to put the word around. I have a website but most of my commissions so far have come from friends and friends of friends. I'm LOVING it

hi pheebe, i am hoping to start something similar - more sewing really. i just assumed there was zero money to be made in crochet and knitting. what sort of stuff do you do?

well done jack sorry for hijack

I did want to do this but have only been crafting for myself and as gifts as I never thought there would be a market for it. Am happy to be proven wrong, even if only for a tenner

Hijack away BO, I would like to know too! website linky please!

I do anything really, baby blankets and clothes, hats and scarves (really popular through the winter), toys, bags, loads of stuff. I started to set up my website and have some things on there but tbh its more of a show case at the moment than a shop. Most of my commissions are coming via word of mouth, people seeing me crafting while sitting around at the dds various social engagements. I've also started taking commissions to complete projects for other people that they can't (or can't be bothered) to do themselves and I've booked myself in for a few craft fairs through this year.

It doesn't pay the bills and I don't expect it ever will but it does make a profit and allows me to indulge my passion and destress (have quite a stressful day job).

For what its worth here's the link to my website but like I say there's not much there atm as I'm too busy meeting orders to really focus on it.

I'm also on facebook as BekaBoo Designs

Very nice.
I don't expect it to pay the bills but it would be nice to have a little bit of money to call my own IYSWIM.
Have been told/asked to make small bags/cases for mobiles, little dolls/amigurumi, hairbands, hats for newborns, booties (but I have an aversion to 'traditional' stuff so I need a funky pattern!) and eye masks!

Thanks I'm definitely making a profit on what I do. I base it on price of wool x3 then I also look what equivalent would cost in the shops and either add a little or take a little away depending on the item (and who its for)

I'm quite traditional I think, mamachee has some lovely and quite unusual patterns for sale on etsy, I'll try and dig up a link
