craft idea for girls party

Hi

I'm looking for a craft idea for DD (12) and her friends to spend about 1/2 - 1 hour making something during a party.

Any ideas where I can buy kits with all the gear provided? Maybe making an item of jewellery, or painting glass/pottery or...what?!

Must be fairly straight forward and with a result that doesn't need too much artistic ability!

Grateful for any pointers in the right direction.

TIA

Yellow Moon?

PollyTechnique · 01/03/2010 21:09

BimiBluebell - Just had a quick look a Yellow Moon and there's some good possibilities there - thanks for the suggestion.

I do like the porcelain painting items on Yellow Moon, but the jewellery looks a bit young for dd and her friends.

Anyone know of any other craft kits please?

You are welcome!

DD2 came back from a party where the mum had bought cheap Asda white t-shirts and decent fabric pens from Yellow Moon or a craft shop(much less risk of mess than the paints!) - they each drew pictures on the front of their own and they all signed the backs - DD wears it in bed. The mum had copied the "fixing" instructions out (ie iron v hot with no steam) and gave that with the t-shirt at hometime.

Make jewellery inspired by the Liberty/charm designs of super-on-trend Parisian jewellery designer Aurélie Bidermann. You need Liberty ribbon (at any good haberdashery shop), small chains, charms etc (look at her site for inspiration) and some jewellery fastenings, needles and thread.

have you tried www.kidsartkits.co.uk ?

PollyTechnique · 01/03/2010 22:01

T-shirts would work well - thanks. I now have a couple of ideas to run by dd.

Bonsoir - that is a really lovely idea; but maybe a bit too complicated for some over-excited 12 year olds, though, partly because it needs to be simple as I'm not that experienced!

andrea - thanks, I wish I had seen that site about four years ago! Think the crafts on there are a bit too young for dd now.

just remembered, Nellie Shepherd, the lady who runs www.kidsartkits.co.uk also organises childrens parties www.childrensartparties.co.uk although these are a bit pricey! she is worth calling if you want a chat about art parties though

these are a bit 'older' - for decorating photo frames, maybe?

As an alternative to T-Shirts you could get canvas shoulder bags and glitter fabric paints?

I am sure I have seen a simpler (if less achingly cool) version of Bonsoir's idea - pretty glass beads and findings and ribbons - somewhere, but I am blowed if I can now remember where.

Stealth - that's brilliant. Under the Baker Ross DIY Crafts menu there are about 7 ideas that I think might do.

Miniature porcelain masks, little chests of drawers to paint, and several types of bags, as you said. Thanks for looking!

how about making flower corsages? i made some singed fabric flowers you can see them on my blog - i'm guessing you'd have to make up a stack of the singed petals for them and then let them choose colours and sizes and stitch together - they look very fancy but are really easy to make.

cotton totes bags decorated with fabric pens is a great half-hour proct too my ds made loads for christmas presents - the can be as creative or as basic as the kid wants.

elasticated beaded bracelets would be good too.

Yes, woven through. But there are all sorts - take a browse on the site.

I think I am a bit late to this discussion but if budget is no object the pencil case or make up bag from here is great. Just give them a big pile of stuff cut out of magazines/stickers/photos etc. Hours of fun and you obviously will not need a party bag!
We have also done these - the example on the website isn't great - we used a netting for the fabric and I bought a load of furry trim that the girls used - ours looked way better than these.
