wooden children's easel?

Something of an urgent request, because DS's birthday is on wednesday and the thing we've got him won't be here, let alone assembled, by then and DH and I would like to get him something he can open/play with actually on his birthday. Crap disorganised parents.

Anyway, he really likes playing with easels at his friends' houses (he's going to be 2, btw) and being a bit poncy, I'd rather get a wooden one that can fold away. Was all set to get the ELC one at the weekend, but looking at their website, I see it's apparently crap. There are loads of others on the market but have no idea whether they, too, are liable to fall to pieces within weeks. Any recommendations, please? I'm prepared to pay for next-day delivery so I'm sure we can get one by wednesday.

Ikea. White board one side, chalk the other and can get roll of paper too. Also way cheaper than elc.

Megletwantsittobesummer · 25/02/2010 19:53

another vote for the Ikea one.

MamaGoblin · 25/02/2010 19:59

I knew people would recommend the IKEA one! Thanks for the replies. I'm not really near an IKEA, and can't get DH to go within 500 yards of one. I do like theirs though, and at £14.99 it is excellent value. They don't sell it online, of course... grr.

If we can't drag DH to IKEA this weekend, any other recs? The Pintoy one? Melissa and Doug?

Is your DH or you any good at carpentry?

They are not actually that hard to make, way back when I was a teenager my dad and I made three for my younger siblings, there was no fancy chalkboard and we used big buterfly clips at the top to hold the paper in place but they folded flat when not in use and had a tray for paint pots too.

ooh! There's an idea... not sure we've got the time this weekend though, which is the only time we have before his birthday. It shouldn't be too hard though, should it?

We have the GLTC one, magnetic white board on one side, black board the other, not cheap, but they do next day delivery !

cakeywakey · 25/02/2010 21:04

The Ikea one is great - and they sell the paper rolls, chalks and other bits and bobs to go with it. My DD loves hers, and so do adult visitors to the house for some reason

PacificDogwood · 25/02/2010 21:06

We have model previous to this one

MamaGoblin · 25/02/2010 21:50

PD - aha! I found this one which looks identical to the GLTC one, doesn't it? A quid cheaper, but more importantly, free next-day delivery! I think, if I can't persuade DH to take us to IKEA this weekend, I'll get this other one.

Thanks, everyone.

The whiteboard side of the ikea one isn't magnetic which is a bit of a pain. But they are well cheap for whiteboard pens.

cookielove · 25/02/2010 22:00

The GLTC we use at nursery but the table top one, kiddies love it, there is one in the 2-3's and 3-4's, they love that the board wipe sticks to the white board

MamaGoblin · 25/02/2010 22:26

I think I'm going to go for the Pintoy one (basically the one GLTC is selling, minus £1 and free delivery yay) because the difference between that and the cheapy cheapy IKEA one will be more than made up in terms of petrol and all the other shite useful household items I will buy in the Marketplace when I get there!

i've just bought the ikea one last week - my son is 5 and loves it great for practicing his writing and midee loves it too - cheap but good! Wish the white board was actually a magnet board.

juneybean · 27/02/2010 01:52

Charge has M&D one and it's really sturdy, and quite tall so will last her a good few years.

rebeccak · 01/03/2010 22:28

We stock the M&D one along with their range of art supplies, have one ourselves which DS loves so can highly recommend. Becky
