I am trying to knit presto chango, from Ravelry, but a bit stumped at this.

Cast on 24 sts at beg of next 2 rows (89) sts
Work k1,p1,k1, on first 3 sts, stockinette across row and k1, p1,k1 on last 3 sts of each row until measure 9 inches.

I think I am right in casting on 24 sts knit sside with cable cast on then knitting across them all turning and casting on 24 on a purl row and purling across. But if I do this one side will be wider than the other?

Am I supposed to maybe incorparate this into the pattern rather than knit it seperate?

Any help would be appreciated, Ive got a cold today and my head is just not working and I dont want to carry on in case i have to rip it back

You've got it right - just do the cast on as you described and it will be fine. The only thing is, if you don't want two plain rows of stockinette at the start of this section, then cast on the sts and work them in pattern immediately when you work across them.

I would say you incorporate it into what you've already knitted. What do you have on your needles before you start this next bit?

alfiemama · 14/02/2010 12:16

Thanks everyone.
I have the main body (back) but this is what I have done in my terms lol

Main body add 24 sts knitt across the whole thing.
Turn add 24 sts purl across the whole row but this inclused the knit extra stitches again, so I will end up with it lopsided. weird. It may right it self but just cant see in the pattern how.

The way it tells you to cast on 24 sts at the beg of the next 2 rows makes me think you you continue from what you already have. If it was telling you to start a completely new piece of knitting it would tell you to cast on 24 sts, not at the beg of the NEXT rows.

I'm trying to visualise what you're saying, let me go and put DS to bed and I'll be back...

Ok... had a look at the pattern. Very cute! Yes, you're adding onto what you already have. So you do exactly what you said in your 12:16pm post. I've made a few baby jumpers like this and they turn out just fine. You're basically adding the stitches on each side for the sleeves. By lopsided, do you mean that the sleeve on one side will be bigger than the other? It'll be fine, when it comes to casting those 24 sts off to finish the sleeves off, you'll cast off the same side first as you cast on first, so each sleeve will have the same number of rows. And one will only be 1 row higher/lower than the other, you on't be able to tell. Promise!

Did that answer your question or did I misunderstand?

alfiemama · 14/02/2010 12:32

Fantastic, you answered it brilliantly, just couldnt quite picture it.
Its cute isnt it, very practical.
Thanks again your a star.

The pattern is only knit in 2 pieces, the first goes right up the back, increases for the sleeves then decreases and goes down the front (so when you fold it in half you'll have the 'T' shape of the jumper. The second piece is the detachable rectangle with the cascading leaves pattern.

No probs!

Just had a quick peek at your profile to see where in the world you are... Are you anywhere near Warrington? If you are, would you be interested in details of my Knit n Natter group?
