i think you can get some info on you tube. There is currently on sale a new crochet kit in the newsagents along with insructions, and the first one is 99p but it will soon be going up to a higher price and there will be loads of them to collect. If you could just get hold of the first one ,there is an instruction book in there.I love crochet too and made 3 blankets last year

mummylin2495 · 18/01/2010 22:22

i forgot to add that there is a disc in the package as well, along with a hook and two balls of wool

cheesesarnie · 18/01/2010 23:00

ooh thanks!will check newsagent!its so addictive isnt it!

you may have to ask in newsagents or maybe smiths to order the first issue for you as it came out about two weeks ago.Even though i can crochet ,i cant read the patterns thats why i have it,im fine making blankets but a blanket dosent look too good with a pair of jeans

mummylin2495 · 19/01/2010 11:05

if you look on my profile you can see two of the blankets i made last year

paisleyleaf · 19/01/2010 11:06

I relearnt crochet last year from some great tutorials on youtube.

JackBauer · 19/01/2010 12:20

I got that thing but only cos the yarn was cheap and I was bored at IL's! If you want the disc then cat me and I can send it to you.
I heart crochet!

I suggest you get a book like Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet, which has clear instructions in the front and lots of cute things to make. The patterns are much easier to follow than the ones in crochet magazines.

Crochet Designs for Kids is also good, and Stitch 'n Bitch Crochet is popular.

cheesesarnie · 26/01/2010 18:31

thankyou!i'll take a look!

I love crochet!

Best thing is to learn by making stuff, tis a bit tedious making squares and such like otherwise. Or you could practise different stitches in squares then make a blanket.

I recommend Supercute Crochet by Nicky Trench for lovely amigurumi.

Once someone has taught you the basics it's very easy to google for different stitches online. Happy to try and offer advice on here too (I'm a crochet evangelist!).

Crochet is great.

I bought a book when I was about 7 published by 'Golden Hands'. The designs are naff 70s, but the instruction is great.

Have a look in your local library. They often have good crochet books.

cheesesarnie · 28/01/2010 23:10

didnt think of library!.i adore naff 70's

Library books often have hidden gems in them.

There are two ways to make circles, the first is in continuous spirals. If you do this it is useful to put a length of contrasting colour along the begining of each row (fold it over each time you make the first stitch of the new row), does that make sense? I could find you some examples if not. Second is to do it in rows, so at the end of each round you slip stitch into the chain/first stitch of the row then chain 1/2/3 (depending on stitch) and start again.

cheesesarnie · 02/02/2010 21:17

thanks.i understood second one but not first!sorry.

i think im doing it!

ds2 now has a jumper and trousers for his cuddly,i have a pretty corsage to go on my new coat when it arrives and dd has a money pouch for swimming money!clever me.think im getting carried away though-everything will be made of crochet soon!
lovely dh found a wool shop and brought me lots of wool, another hook and a pattern(which i dont understand!)for a quite nice cardi.he said the lady in there was very helpful and said to pop in for help!
