Does anyone know if I can make a rug out of a piece of carpet?

I've posted this elsewhere, but not sure if it's in the right place.

All the rugs I've found are really pricey for the size I need (2m by 2m). Is it possible to use an offcut of carpet and get the edges bound/ whip-stitched? Has anyone does this successfully? Does anyone know where I could get this done?

Yes have done it - we had it whipped at a local carpet shop. It might be worth trying the smaller shops as they usually cna sent it off to be done. From what I recall it was around £7.50 to have a small rug whipped.

I have done the same for the same reason - large rugs are £££. I've had carpet bound in cotton tape and it looks fab and like a contemporary rug (but at half the price) - just put carpet binding in yell.com and you should be able to find something locally. Otherwise if you have a large department store like John Lewis locally they might be able to recommend a local place they use. My rug is 2.4 m X 2 m approx. it cost about £120 to have bound I think. Thank you so much handbag and carrot. MN, as usual, always comes up trumps. Much appreciated!
