good knitting tutorials?

I'm looking for tutorials to finally move my knitting on to something more exciting!

so i have found lots of lovely jumpers and dresses for dd, but most are knitted 'in the round'

does this mean dpns or circular needles? if you can use either, how do you know which is better for different kinds of prjects?

and finally, if anyone could point me towards some good tutorials (pref. not videos, would rather something i can print out and read when i'm ready) I'd be very grateful

There is a good site with tutorial and forums of knitters

www.learn2knit.co.uk

I have recently made a hat with straight needles (normally round ones are used) and it took such a short time as I used big needles and double yarn. If you like the pattern for that, visit

cambridgecheapskate.blogspot.com/2009/11/knit-easy-hat-with-straight-needles.html

It's very easy to make.

Oh, another thing, visit your local library, pick up a lot of books and scan the projects you like best.

its a bit embarassing really, i have been knitting for over 20 years!

but i was taught by my dads girlfriend when i was 5/6, and then when they split up i didnt have anyone to teahc me

so i have been stuck and knit, purl, cast on and off, increase/decrease and rib

made lots of lovely things for my dcs when they were little babies, just cardigans and stuff, but i dont really like or need big needles and chinky wool because i am pretty fast at knitting.

for some reason our library doesnt do knitting books, very strange, esp. as is such an arty town

Stitch and bitch is a good book, full of interesting subjects. There is a site and forum (you could try to find a local group)

stitchnbitch.org/

Do you have an age concern branch in town? Some do welcome knitters of all ages to their social knitting afternoons.

I knitted a lot in the 1980s, so lost my hand and going for easy stuff now.

Scour the charity shops, perhaps you will find some knitting books and try freecycle!
