Handmade Christmas gifts for children

Hi all,

I have an urge to make something for my 2 boys (age 3 and 5) and niece (age 2) for Christmas.

I can crochet - but don't really want to crochet something for them, and thats about it really, so needs to be something easy and quick to do.

I was thinking of doing some applique onto plain t-shirts - maybe their initials? Don't have a sewing machine but have seen some tutorials using bondaweb and then hand stitching round the edges (maybe using fleece to prevent fraying.)

Has anyone done this? Is it easy?

Or do you have any other ideas?

Thanks

You could make stockings out of fleece or perhaps rainy day blankets.

You could edge fleeces with blanket stitch & sew them into camp blankets
For your neice you could crochet flowers & sew them on to a blanket for her

I've tried applique with felt on some plain T-shirts using bondaweb and hand-stitching. It was very easy and it's survived one machine-wash (although I don't know about the long-term). Keep the design simple with fairly large shapes - depends what their initials are. Animals or stars etc might be better shapes.

Blankets are a nice idea - you could applique onto those too, and they'd probably last longer as they'd take less washing.

I've seen some nice crochet patterns for finger puppets if you change your mind about crocheting.
